You can find loads of conference material about “why ML is better than AI” from a decade ago. They pivoted to calling it AI again of course, even if the product didn’t change.

We’re using AI funds to build a thing that happens to use a vector db and xgboost. Not genAI at all but it’ll work and you can phrase it as AI so the paper people are happy.
