Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Dutch students create modular electric car "you can repair yourself"English
2·6 days agoI’ve been helping a startup company test their prototype V2G charger for a while, so they gave me one of the first production units at a discount. The prototype worked; it was the production unit that caused the problem. We still don’t know what is different between the prototype and production units that could have caused this. All sales have been halted until this is can be fixed.
I’m keeping the company anonymous for now at their request. There is no risk to any other cars, they really don’t want bad PR from this, and they have taken responsibility for my car.
I have heard (with no evidence) that both Wallbox and Kempower had the same issue when first releasing their chargers, so it sounds to me like Nissan haven’t properly implemented the CHAdeMO standard, and companies are having to modify their chargers to fix Nissan’s mistake. All of this is just my speculation.
I shall pass on your suggestion. They may not have thought to reach out to hobbyists for help.

13·6 days agoI’ve tried disconnecting the 12V battery. I believe the technicians have tried disconnecting the 12V and HV batteries at the same time. All factory reset buttons have been pressed. We’ve tried plugging in a CHAdeMO and type 1 cable at the same time.
I’m also very surprised that something like this could be software related and persist across power failures/reboots.

28·6 days agoMy Nissan Leaf is currently bricked because a charging station sent the wrong communication messages (or the right messages in the wrong order, still don’t know exactly what happened).
The car thinks there is a cable still plugged in (when there isn’t), so it won’t go into drive. It also won’t recognise a new cable being plugged in, so it won’t charge. It doesn’t think there is a charging session ongoing, so there is no way to stop it. There are no fault codes and no errors. The car is behaving perfectly normally except that it won’t start.
Nissan has no idea what the problem is. Multiple experts has tried with success to find anything wrong. It’s been 3 months and the best option so far is to start replacing modules (for more than the value of the car) until we accidentally replace the correct module.
The vast majority of the problems we’re having is caused by a lack of information and communication from Nissan. They don’t provide circuit diagrams, or diagnostic manuals, and they don’t even permit people to buy the diagnostic tools they use.
An open source, repairable car would be really nice about now.

7·6 days agoThat sounds like a free energy device, which is not possible.
Hydrogen has a round trip efficiency of 30% when used in a fuel cell, and closer to 10% when burned in a combustion engine. The energy taken from the alternator will always be much more than the extra energy provided by burning the hydrogen.
Many people have made wild claims about fuel efficiency or free energy devices. If they were true, it would be easy for anyone to replicate the results.
Google Play and Google Play Services are separate things. Google Play allows you to download apps, whereas Google Play Services provides the foundation that most apps are built to run on top of.
You can download apps from google play or equivalent stores, but google play services is built into the device.
The de-googled version of play services is microG. It provides many of the same API services for most apps, but can’t do the security things that banking apps request.
I bought a fairphone 6 recently. It works as you would expect any phone to work with no noticeable downsides.
I paid extra to have /e/OS preinstalled. I could have bought the android version and upgraded it myself, but I wanted to support open source development. I want to try Ubuntu touch, but it hasn’t been updated for the fairphone 6 yet.
I can’t use any banking apps on /e/OS by default, but that’s because the apps require google play services for “security”. Enabling these services is possible, but would defeat the purpose of getting the phone to de-google. Bank websites still work, just slightly less convenient.
I dislike the case. It leaves more of the phone exposed than I would like. It does seem to protect the phone from most drops though.
I’m still disappointed by the lack of headphone jack, but I hate Google more.
I was surprised that my favourite feature became the hardware switch. I rebound it to the torch. For moments when you want a light for just a few seconds, it’s so much more convenient.
You’re only an incel if you’ve been rejected by every girl on earth. If you haven’t asked them all yet, then you’re just not sufficiently desperate.

If you can find a way to limit the battery to 60%, then you have a safe and cheap UPS.

Windows telemetry has 2 options when you first install. Full telemetry, or minimal. Notice there isn’t a “no” option.
I can’t find the source, but I remember someone comparing full telemetry to minimal telemetry, and found that minimal was about 90% of full. So not exactly minimal.

Medicine@mander.xyz•‘Patients get relief’: Researchers recommending nerve blockers to treat migraines [in emergency department migraine care]English
6·1 month agoIts always nice to see more options for treating migraines.
I’m still frustrated that most research treats migraines as only pain. I’ve managed to get medication that treats the pain very effectively, but most of the other symptoms persist. I would love to see research that treats the entire disorder, or at minimum, actually records all symptoms when testing efficacy.
While this does sound like another pain only treatment, it’s exactly what someone would want when they get to the hospital, so I guess I can’t complain too much in this instance.

Nah, they’ll make up an excuse to kill you anyway.
They’re trained to stand in from of your car so they can pretend it was self defence when you try to run, and they’re trained to give conflicting orders so they can shoot regardless and have a guaranteed reason that you weren’t complying.
