The new thing seems to be “clades”. I’m not sure if it’s a complete replacement of the traditional taxonomy, though.

I’m at the point now that I don’t even bother checking ProtonDB unless it’s a really expensive purchase. Most things work out of the box for me. With some games that have a native Linux client, the Windows version will actually run better for me.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Why do Americans always presume that everyone speaks EnglishEnglish
121·1 year agoMan, that bugs me how many Americans are out there giving the rest of us a bad name. I don’t travel, but if I did, I’d be grateful a non-native English speaker knew any English at all. And not learning enough of their language to at least get you by for the trip just sounds like poor planning in general. Some people are just incapable of looking before they leap, and for some reason a bunch of those people travel.

Yeah, I buy a case of these every so often. The label is goofy and probably made by someone who didn’t realize what they were implying chemically, but the ingredients are 100% coconut water. No added sugar. No pulp. Good source of potassium. Really delicious.

14·2 years ago10yo me realized that other sized batteries that were also 1.5v could be used as well if I had enough tape and aluminum foil, so then all the flashlight D batteries around the house started to go missing as well.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Ad blocker blocker blocker blocker…..English
01·2 years agoI’m one of the dozen people that bought premium to not have to deal with it. I’m just patiently waiting for alternatives to become more viable so I can jump ship entirely. YouTube is the last remaining Google service I still use.
I used it on a laptop for a while. Pretty impressive just how lightweight it is, but a bit of a grind to initially get everything working as expected. Overall, I’m a big fan.
We still use on-prem Exchange with Microsoft Office at work, and it’s really becoming a problem. Microsoft already auto adds shortcuts for 365 (which we don’t use and doesn’t work with our setup), and the “Mail” app (which also doesn’t work with out setup), and now I have to explain to people to use the regularly titled Outlook icon and not the “Outlook (new)” icon (which again, won’t work with our setup).

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Looks like Facebook is following youtube with anti-adblock measures.English
241·3 years agoThat only allows DNS-based blocking of domains, which isn’t going to be nearly as effective. A lot of modern ads are served up from the same domain that you’re visiting. Browser-based ad-blocker extensions are in a position to block domains, URLs, and specific parts of the HTML DOM itself. This is going to sound rude, and I’m sorry in advance, but when people bring up pi hole, I assume they aren’t very knowledgeable about how things work.

You don’t even need to “pirate” Windows anymore. You can download an ISO from Microsoft’s website, install it, and when it asks for your license key, you click “I don’t have one”, and that’s the end of it. If you look in the activation settings, it’ll say “not activated”, but nothing will ever become of it. This even works if you install it as Pro. It’s not like the Windows XP/7 days where you’d get a 60 day scare timer. They just don’t seem to care anymore, or maybe all that telemetry they siphon up from you is just that much more valuable.
