I have to say some countries are really heavy on this. Myanmar and some provinces in India. Usually it’s corrupt governments profiting from the scams so they turn a blind eye.
There should be more international pressure on this. Geoblocks won’t help because they’ll just proxy. But completely withholding development aid until they stop their crimes will.
Also putting the top figures on international ban lists of course.

Microsoft are now automatically syncing the documents folder to OneDrive too, that’s how they get you.
It also hides local folders in explorer now if your have OneDrive (which my employer turns on).

I don’t think there was ever really a positive period. Maybe the 90s which was kinda the high point. Economics were good, America and NATO was the undisputed world power, nobody took global warming seriously yet and the internet was promising a great future.
Then after 2000 we had the dot com crash, 9/11, the resulting wars, Russia becoming an enemy again, the financial world crisis, the rise of the internet as a surveillance tool, global warming, the pandemic, exploding house prices everywhere.

There’s some AV packages like Lookout that are pretty common in corporate environments.
And really any big data collection through apps will make itself to servers eventually if course. You don’t need to open a URL for this to trigger, the eicar code being in memory of a process is enough.
Of course you do need to decode the QR. But I’m sure many environments focused on video data collection would device QR codes.
No it’s not but the whole point of it is that antivirus packages detect it, and they will kill and quarantine the process handling the data. Its purpose is to trigger an antivirus response for testing purposes.
So it can indeed be used as a DoS kinda thing in many cases.

America is not the only superpower and well on its way to no longer being the biggest one. Trump complains a lot about providing defense capability for Europe and other places but in return for that America got influence which is what made it a superpower.
Now that people are no longer trusting the US that influence will be reduced. Europe won’t be the next superpower but probably China will be. I’m not very happy with that but as a European I don’t really want us to be a superpower either.
I think in my case I had my finger on the passport because it keeps closing up on its own. I tried to hold it at the edge but i had to hold it somewhere.
But there’s no way to even retry the process. It’s really annoying, I really would like to get some kind of payment on my phone and Google is not an option.
