Games@sh.itjust.works•Fallout and RPG veteran Josh Sawyer says most players don't want games "6 times bigger than Skyrim or 8 times bigger than The Witcher 3"English
2·1 年前Slightly OT, but I want to give a shout out to Witcher 3 as my favorite fantasy RPG.
Early on in the game I kind of struggled with it. I found the UI and especially combat, to be ‘clunky’.
After I mastered the combat UI enough to survive, I started to wander and explore. In this wandering I found some old cave filled with some decent (but not overpowered) gear. As far as I know, there was no quest that would have sent me to this cave. Also, if I hadn’t been pointed in the exact direction I was going, I never would have seen the cave entrance. These little details made the world feel ‘real’ and lived in.
Later in the game, when I was much more experienced, I was following a faint path, in the snow, over a mountain and I see another cave entrance. I go inside the cave and I hear voices. I sneak closer and I hear a fart, Then I hear a voice complaining about the smell of a rotten onion. (it was 2 trolls cooking something). This was totally unexpected and I literally LOL’d. Once again, this little bit made the world feel more real.
In summation, I don’t need games to be ‘bigger’. They just need to be ‘good’.

That is a pretty sweet picture you have taken.
One pattern I have noticed in suspicious accounts is in their name. Adjective-Noun-Number is the format I see controversial posts by accounts newly made. The posts they make usually generate a lot of outrage.

World News@lemmy.world•US to send antipersonnel mines to UkraineEnglish
11·1 年前Correct. The countries most likely to get into an actual shooting war didn’t sign the treaty. The US, China, Russia and some others did not sign the treaty.

“The official also pointed to the function of the mines, which they said require a battery for operation and will not detonate once the battery runs out after a period of a few hours to a few weeks.”

politics @lemmy.world•Democrats won 'highly engaged' voters and struggled with everyone else in 2024
11·1 年前The Democratic party could not even prosecute a guy who tried to murder Congress. They could. They chose not to.
It makes one wonder if there really was a plot to murder Congress or if, perhaps, the Democrats were engaged in hyperbole.

31·1 年前She never seemed to do well in unscripted situations. When answering any questions in an interview, even from friendly interviewers, she always seemed to be thinking “what did my staff recommend I say for questions like this?” rather than “I will answer this question with what I believe in”.

World News@lemmy.world•Israel's new defense minister says Hezbollah defeated; Netanyahu acknowledges approving pager attacksEnglish
1·1 年前Those “teenagers” were 18 and were enlisted to the IDF
Heh. Typical. Technically correct, but used in a way meant to be wildly misleading. Something similar is done regarding gun crime victims. One misleading stat involves “children” who are victims of gun violence. Some of these ‘victims’ are gang members in their late teens or early twenties.

World News@lemmy.world•Israel's new defense minister says Hezbollah defeated; Netanyahu acknowledges approving pager attacksEnglish
13·1 年前and their Hezbollah affiliation was unclear.
Why would Hezbollah distribute one way pagers to non-members? These pagers weren’t for sale on the open market. Hezbollah bought them for their members only.
Hezbollah actually had a good idea to use these pagers instead of cell phones. Cell phones can be tracked, these pagers can’t be tracked. Unfortunately for Hezbollah, the IDF has infiltrated the Hezbollah’s communications.

If Russia were able to plant mini-bombs into the communication equipment distributed to Ukraine’s armed forces? Yes, it would be described as a well executed, precise attack.

Programming@programming.dev•How Good at Math Does a Programmer Need to Be?
3·1 年前As others have said, It depends on what kind of programming you do. Some areas requite a lot. Others not so much. It’s logic, not math, that is needed the most.
You may want to check if your college has a different kind of programming degree. As I understand things, there are basically two kinds of programming degrees. “Computer Science” has much steeper math requirements and focuses on applications that deal with Science or engineering issues. “MIS (Management Information Systems)” degrees focus on actual programming that businesses need, not programs that are science or engineering focused.
