If the professor is worth their salt then this assignment has a negligible effect on your grade. The F is a wake-up call to actually read the syllabus. I can’t tell you how often students email questions that are literally spelled out on the syllabus and explained in the first week of class. Clearly students don’t read the syllabus and a certain percentage of them skip the first class.
