Never forget some rich people literally paid to murder civilians for sport in Sarajevo during the Bosnian war.

Even gen AI, despite how it has been used as a tool for the enrichment of the more privileged 0.1% as a tool of suppression of artists’ (and critics of technofascism’s) voices, is not really a harmful technology.
With enough copyright protections, and regulation of deep fakes, digital formats, and a bunch of other things, I could see gen AI being a valuable collaborator to creative output and workflows.
Hell, other than weapons, I find it hard to justify calling any technology inherently evil or nefarious. And even then, weapons have saved many innocent people’s lives against unjustified attacks, wild animals and other threats.
Still, if we don’t treat each technological invention with the right amount of cautiousness and care, we risk the deaths of, sometimes, even thousands or tens of thousands of people.

77·9 months agoNot at all. Incels are almost overwhelmingly misogynistic and into a lot of weird pseudo scientific shit. Incels are those claiming they deserve women but at the same time don’t deserve them because they’re too beta and all the rich alphas are getting 10 chicks a second, so they excuse their lack of success with dating in a lot of made up bullshit to delude themselves into never improving as people.
Incels are not just virgins, they’re basically a cult, and thinking people use it just as ‘virgin’ is either deliberately obtuse or ignorant
Damn, imagine the levels of segregation, speciesm and genocide we would see if other human species had thrived and grown like us.
It may also be correlated with the population, though. Specifically the working age population.
I imagine that, as populations decrease and you have fewer people available to actually do any research, technological advancement also stagnates and slows down. If populations ever start increasing again in the future, then I imagine technological development will grow as well

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me, or have the comments on Lemmy become extra aggressive over the past 3 months?
25·2 years agoThat doesn’t mean we need to discuss it everywhere, all the time. For starters, not everyone is American and wants to see American centric discussions everywhere, and also, not all discussions everywhere need to start revolving around modern politics. Creating apolitical spaces doesn’t mean being an apolitical individual. Just wanting to look for more peaceful alternatives.
I’m perfectly fine with being called worthless if you can’t see the logic behind that, I legitimately don’t give a shit as long as I can get a break from the insane and miserable shit throwing that is online political discourse.
If you like feeling miserable and angry every time you go online, great for you, but I’d much rather have an option not to do that.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me, or have the comments on Lemmy become extra aggressive over the past 3 months?
2·2 years agoExactly. Just discuss anything else. Whatever. I don’t care anymore. I don’t want to know. I have absolutely no control over whatever happens in most countries, and I only have control over my own votes (if anything). Online discussion and politics always gets insanely toxic and dogmatic.

39·2 years agoI’m not even American and I usually don’t care either way, but it’s so annoying. Why can’t we just have apolitical or at least more focused communities online anymore? I would literally join any community that outright banned all political speech for a change nowadays.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•You've been instantly teleported two feet to the left. How does this affect you?
1·2 years agoNo, I don’t think you understand what instantaneous actually means. It literally means instantaneous. Faster than the speed of light (which is actually why teleportation is physically impossible but that’s irrelevant).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•You've been instantly teleported two feet to the left. How does this affect you?
4·2 years agoWouldn’t that mostly depend on how long teleportation takes? But if it’s instantaneous, you wouldn’t need to account for inertia to end up literally a couple of feet away from where you are, right?

141·2 years agoThen again, music streaming services pretty much removed music piracy from mainstream usage altogether. Obviously people in this sub still pirate music, but it’s so uncommon nowadays, I’m sure many people wouldn’t even know where or how to find it.

6·2 years ago0.5% for Weezer, at over 1200 minutes.
On the one hand you’re right, but on the other I feel like a lot of stuff has become browser based (like text editors, code editors, even music editors and perhaps video editors someday), all thanks to Web Assembly and how complex a lot of web apps have become.
It feels like people use everyday stuff through apps, and more complex stuff through browsers nowadays. Roles may slowly invert at some point if it keeps going this way.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It's probably more difficult for kids to throw house parties nowadays when their parents are out of town due to how accessible security cameras are.
1·3 years agoAh yeah, I go to concerts pretty often. Radiohead, Green Day, Gorillaz, plenty of local rock, jazz and hip hop bands. But I don’t really count that as “partying” as I usually go for the music first.

1·3 years agoNo, I get you. I’m sure that’s fun. I mean, I have awesome fun when I go to concerts I like, like Green Day or Gorillaz (yeah, I like old music lol).
But if you don’t do drugs, and you don’t even enjoy electronic music all that much, I don’t really see much point to raves, clubs and that stuff. Especially if most of your friends aren’t into that stuff either.

8·3 years agoI’m 25, so nah, not really. I enjoy spending time with my friends, but more like, going to get coffee or playing tabletop games. Maybe playing online games and cursing each other out.
But I can’t remember the last time I went to a bar or a club. I was probably in college. I don’t find much interesting to do when I go to places like that, so I just leave work early and go hang out at my friend’s place with a couple beers, or something. We rarely go out to clubs at all anymore.

I really think you guys need to wake up to the fact that they don’t care about distracting from the Epstein files because they know they can’t be held accountable whatsoever.
The reality is every file could come out unredacted tomorrow and absolutely nothing would happen (maybe one or two major donors would get house arrest at best).
They’re not trying to distract from anything because it doesn’t matter. No one will do anything.
They are just furthering the US’s economic and military goals by toppling unfriendly governments because they can. They don’t care about optics, but they do care about whatever goals they have underlined for themselves.
The most likely unsettling reality for most American progressives, I imagine, is that toppling Iran, establishing a friendly government and gaining military power in the region, benefits them as well, just like with Venezuela, but it is a dark reality for most of the rest of the world. Not because Iran’s government was great, they were absolute shit, but because that means the US will just extort whoever they want whenever they want.
Some Americans probably prefer to believe this is a distraction than to see how this ultimately does benefit their own country’s immediate military interests at the expense of almost everybody else, not to mention setting an incredibly grim precedent for the future.
Basically, I think people are being naive or deliberately playing dumb when they pretend they don’t understand how this benefits the US military industrial complex, and instead think it’s all a distraction. Yes, what benefits you guys actively harms other humans. That’s the sad reality of geopolitics sometimes.
