13·5 days agoWe do a fair job at banning some of their people too
I like seeing local losers pay for tickets to the speaking event of some utter cunt who will be refused a visa, and then the pathetic losers whine about losing their money

There are awful, powerful people in the background pulling the levers of power, but this isn’t new
It has always been fucked. It wasn’t founded on the ideals of freedom or anything noble
It was stolen, then built with slavery, and that slavery was just rebranded as capitalism so white people would buy into it, so long as they still felt superior to everyone else
The cruelty and greed have always been the defining characteristics

It has a hand brake, but it’s electronically operated and I have it set to automatically operate, because there’s no benefit in not doing that

This case was an outlier
But, “good job, Angus” will parade this around to appeal to the fears of transphobes
I despise him, but he seems to be alienating himself more and more by trying to appeal to the shrinking right-wing
The problem is that when they feel penned-in, they will become even more vicious

One of the big problems is youth apprentice wages
They should be eliminated. They do the same work, they should get the same pay as anyone else, and they’re the reason kids pull out of apprenticeships
With residential, and to a lesser extent commercial, kids are treated like shit and used as cheap labour
Young people with brains are still pushed towards university, and even now, the trades still tend to get the leftovers when it comes to young people.
That’s why many big outfits tend to employ slightly older people, many who have tertiary education already. They are there because they are motivated, not because there’s nothing else
But there are only so many of those big employers
It’s also cheaper for unscrupulous companies to hire cheap labour to do the vast majority of the work and have a single tradesperson to sign it off, and plenty of good sparkies won’t be held liable for work that isn’t their own, and rightly so

I live in what is considered “regional” Australia
The inbred hicks who think that sharing a name with a coloniser who died a hundred years ago is a flex resent it when they’re shown up as simple, unworldly people
They resent the stereotypes, but they go out of their way to reinforce all of the worst of them
Luckily, they’re not Queenslanders, or Territorians, so it could be worse
I still have say that I live in paradise, but I choose my company
