  • But not really a NEW problem. We knew LLM’s are trained on aggregate human data. We know aggregate human data is fundamentally flawed, inconsistent, unreliable, etc.

Like was there a point at which people just decided, nah AI is just plain accurate? Or is that just what morons always thought despite the permanent warnings plastered everywhere saying THIS AI CAN MAKE MISTAKES, CHECK EVERYTHING!

For me personally, the trick was realizing that:

    1. I already know it needs to be done
    2. I know I’ll feel good for getting it done
    3. I’m not lazy

And then realizing that time blindness has a huge deterministic impact on the causality chain of your life.

Imagine you are doctor Manhattan. Doctor Manhattan has clear view of his entire personal timeline. He knows exactly when he is meant to do what he needs to do.

ADHD makes you completely and utterly time blind at worst, or a bit tardy at average, or on time if you’ve developed great coping skills.

So the trick I realized is prioritization. You need to convince yourself that the present moment is the point on the timeline you were meant to complete this task.

Anyway I hope that makes sense to everyone. It worked a treat for me.

    Edit:

Relevant fiction that helps cement these lessons. Watchmen (2009), Steins;gate (anime)

It’s because they think we take in information the same way they do.

The process in which they construct understanding:

    1. Feel something (id)
    2. Come up with an explanation that satisfies id. (Super Ego)
    3. End process

How real understanding is best constructed:

    1. Feel something
    2. Come up with an explanation that satisfies id.
    3. Ego passes the explanation over to Super Ego.
    4. Super Ego looks for any aspect of the explanation unsupported by objective fact.
    5. If a gap of knowledge is discovered, ask why recursively until you cannot ask why any more.
    6. Super Ego passes explanation back to id via Ego again.
    7. Id tells you if the explanation feels like it’s bulletproof.
    8. Go to sleep because that was a lot of hard cognitive work and you deserve it, and the other person didn’t do any of this work.
    9. Understand that the other person that opposes you likely didn’t work as hard as you to disprove yourself.
    10. Listen to them call you lazy for not doing the work.
    11. Present Day

You can’t change minds if you don’t know how their minds work.
