And for people with blood clots! Locking your knees prevents blood flow and can get those clots forming faster.
Since locking your knees while standing makes you pass out, I wonder if locking your knees while seated also makes you pass out.

That’s what I remember learning while in college. Someone had done a study showing that those who wrote out notes were able to recall information better than those who typed their notes.

You can download forms from the IRS website or use free software like TaxHawk. Many people prefer to use similar software that you have to pay for or pay an accountant to do their taxes for them.
Not to mention the fact that many people don’t know what FOSS means, given that it’s not used widely outside programmer circles and nobody ever defines the term.
I’m still hoping we get more of the general population on lemmy to help it grow, rather than only be filled with programmers.

Did you roll the Mint into the manager’s office with a note “looks like I’m rolling out of here!”

I came across a company called Flower Turbines, they sell tulip-shaped wind turbines. They look nice and hopefully would do well on the energy front. They claim that their turbines start producing energy with just a touch over 1 mph winds.
It looks like it would be a cute way to generate clean energy.

It wasn’t age locked per se. If you were in Honors English, they assumed you were reading at a higher level and could check out books one grade level higher than you and if you were in on-level English you were not allowed to read above “grade level”.
I can understand keeping a 6th grader from checking out a bunch of 1st grade level books, but discouraging kids from pushing themselves was weird

I’m glad you had teachers like that. Not sure why mine were so dead-set on only reading in your grade level. Limiting lower level makes more sense, to encourage students to push themselves more. 6th grade was the last grade in the school, so the only people allowed to read the 7th grade level books were in the 6th grade Honors English class. It’s not like the library would run out of books if all 6th graders were allowed to pick out of that section of the library

I wonder that the standard used for 6th-grade reading level is. I know that the 6th grade reading level at the beginning of the century is higher than the 6th grade reading level now.
I remember being extremely disappointed when I was in 6th grade and they had arbitrarily moved a lot of books up a reading level. There were a few in particular that I was looking forward to reading while in 5th grade that were at a 6th grade level. Then in 6th grade, I grabbed one of those books to check out but was told that I could t read it because it was now considered 7th grade and that I had to choose from the 6th grade level (which was largely the previous year’s 5th grade level).
I live in TX and we’ve had many Christmases at that temperature.

I think it’s wrong to assume that man=financial duties and woman=domestic duties. That worked in the 50s because of rampant sexism, but that train of thought is long-since outdated. I get that power dynamic is ingrained into straight culture, but especially in the scenario you’re talking about only serves to make the woman inferior to the man by making her clean for him even when they are both working. I always thought it was weird that men wouldn’t learn to cook, if you really loved the ither person wouldn’t you take the time to learn to cook at least a couple dishes to help out?
The two of you need to have a conversation about how your relationship will work. Talk about how the finances will be handled and how the chores will be handled. What works for tv couples may not work for y’all.
That’s interesting, I didn’t realize that a photograph counted as part of the directory information. I figured that was why photos are included in the list of items on the parent consent forms sent out every year.
It was my understanding (from admin, teacher professional orgs, and teacher unions) that pictures on websites and social media need consent to be posted. So we were told that any student without a consent form had to be edited out or blurred on any picture posted anywhere.

Let’s hope they dont turn violent, like the Krogan after the genophage.
Which country are you talking about? Us federal law required consent to opt-in. As far as I know, FERPA hasn’t received an update concerning that.
That’s true while on the street or in a public park. That does not apply to students at a school function. There are laws protecting students in such a situation, which is why in the US, parents have to give permission for images of students to be published.
In schools, they normally have parents fill out a form giving consent to use a student’s picture. There should be a way to revoke that consent.

The US was founded by some crazy cult members who had extreme views about sex. The Mormons came out of such a cult, but were pushed out of the country. Most of those old cults are still around to this day.
The religious views from these cults lingers on in our social conscience, probably most notable in our sexual repression and sexual censorship. Those old cult views instilled the idea that sex was depraved and not something to cherish and enjoy. So we still, at least subconsciously, hide sexuality out of a sense of righteousness and politeness.
Given that Lemmy is largely populated by programmers, I assume they have done next to no exercise through their 20s and mostly sit hunched over in a chair all day. So now that they are hitting their 30s, they are paying the price for abusing their bodies.
You don’t need to be huge like Arnold, but find some way to move your body every day. While you’re young in your teens, 20s, and 30s find different and interesting ways to keep your body moving and build up strength, whether that be swimming, running, larping, lifting weights, finding a local exercise meet-up, local sports league, or walking to a park and using the little exercise machines.
A lot of the back issues will go away with more core strength and lifting things properly with your legs. If you can’t think of anything, then start by sitting up straight and tall in your chair using your core to stabilize yourself and see whether in a few weeks you can get through a half or maybe even full day without slouching. Anything is better than nothing!
