  • I feel you. I’m so fucking sick of the scam based economy we (I’m assuming you’re also in the US based on the vibe of your comment; apologies if I’m wrong) live in. I don’t have a family, I can only imagine how much more difficult things are right now for people who do.

It makes me feel like the only path forward in terms of improving any facet of human life is to push the kleptocrats and oligarchs currently running things out of power. That’s honestly one of my goals going to law school; I want to work in politics in some fashion and try to change that. I see some of the anti-oligarchy politicians that have had success or at least a lot of news coverage lately and that gives me some hope for the future. I absolutely hate the idea of being a politician, but I hate the idea of allowing the people currently in charge to remain in charge even more.

  • I feel this. 5 years ago I was a radar engineer making ~200k/yr. Today I’m unemployed and just submitted an application to a law school. I love technology and I’d love nothing more than to continue working in STEM fields, but I just cant justify it when the torment nexus is the only project those in charge are willing to fund. I cant bring myself to continue letting the rich harm people with technology I make, hopefully I can at least get involved with the law and try to create conditions where people in the future can work on tech without building the torment nexus

  • Yes. So is every broadcast sattelite with relatively predictable transmissions/positioning. Most of them aren’t set up to parse return signals into radar information, but anything that transmits and receives from ~2ghz to ~18ghz is physically capable of being used as a radar. If you consider the existence of passive radar, every active transmitter in that frequency range already is acting as part of a radar

  • I’ve been on the fediverse for a good while now. I understand that it’s a bunch of small user owned servers rather than a few monolithic corporate owned servers, but beyond that I have no idea how this place runs. I don’t even know what to call it; I think I’ve made a fool of myself before by referring to piefed as a website. I am glad other people understand it/work on it, trying to learn networking or consumer software stuff myself makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a melon baller

  • The politicians go where the people are, not the other way around. It sounds weird but I think a social media platform has to be a good place for folk with low tech literacy to post and chat about cute cat videos before it can ever be politically relevant. I’ve yet to come across a fedi client that I think my mom in her 60s could handle/would find appealing, and I kinda think you need something like that for widespread adoption. If you had a fedi client like that and some incentive to sign up like free lotteries run on the eu server for the first few months to catalyze a critical mass of users, I bet you’d have a fighting chance at breaking away from US social media walled gardens

It’s true. Friends call me Snow Miser, whatever I touch turns to snow in my clutch. Interstellar was still awful though lol. I might have enjoyed it like any other scifi if it wasn’t specifically advertised as a scientifically accurate portrayal of space travel, but that is how it was advertised and accurate it was not
