I agree with Sevon and if you want to learn more about the benefits, look up “type safety”.

I disagree about it being a huge effort. it’s pretty easy to get started with a simple config and expand over time… and expansion is actually SUPER safe compared to some other distros because you always have a last good config to reload.

I started with a pretty simple Plasma desktop setup and slowly morphed my config over time to a Niri. There were some mistakes along the way, but I was never scared to try new stuff, the safety net is huge.

It’s definitely not 60FPS but it is a smooth 30 finally. Bigger deal in my opinion is it hits 30FPS without overly strong FSR as it was previously. The picture is more than just barely playable now.

BG3 actually runs great now. Larian has been grinding away at it all year. Native Linux and all.

Cyberpunk is playable if you avoid the expansion areas.

My wishlist item is a volume slider for the UI sfx. I don’t want it muted, but I don’t need it screaming at me either.

Dev license just gives you the ability to publish on the AppStore and access Apple support I think.

Their dev tools (ie Xcode and Swift) are free.

Agreed. We don’t need it to perform like an RTX 5090 but just a smidge more power would get a ton of recent games into playable frame rates. I still don’t know how people play BG3 on the deck.

It’s not even to make money, they already do that. They need GROWTH. More money this quarter than last or the stockholders don’t get paid.

I think given the current political situation this is the right call. No one knows what the Russian government might compel otherwise innocent devs to do.

That said, we (and I mean society, not any particular individual) should be mindful that we don’t slip into bigotry.

I use Ubuntu, I’ve used Arch, Debian, Fedora, Pop and many others too. I use Ubuntu because all my hardware works out of the box. Snaps are inoffensive imo. I have just as many issues with abandoned debs or flatpaks and I usually just use whatever package is more maintained.

The most annoying thing about Ubuntu is how slow the packages are sometimes to make it to a release.

I find the tech interesting, but the rush to commercialize it was a bad idea. It’s not ready yet, total uncanny valley.

I live in Indiana and every year our national primaries are useless. All the nominees are determined by May and it leaves me with zero enthusiasm by that point.
