Personally my favorite distros that I tried this year are the following:

General:

• Secureblue
• openSUSE Slowroll
• Fedora Workstation

Gaming:

• PikaOS
• CachyOS
• Nobara

I am willing to elaborate on my choices.

I have been liking CachyOS as well. I reluctantly switched from Fedora after I kept getting weird problems (definitely a “my PC” thing, I wish I could upgrade).

Features I like about Cachy:

• Auto-setup of snapper btrfs snapshoting (my fav feature of openSUSE) on all bootloaders (I like the simplicity of limine)
• Gaming ready fork of kernel-hardened, with some changes, including allowing use of unprivileged namespaces (needed by Bubblewrap/Flatpak/Firefox/Chromium to avoid the need of a SUID binary)
• AUR (cus it is Arch)
• Update service which updates from all installed sources (pacman, Flatpak, AUR)

What I wish was different:

• Inclusion of a full system Mandatory Access Control policy (SELinux preferably)
• Compatibility with hardened_malloc (idk why but on Cachy, GTK apps crash because glycin bubblwrap commands fail)

It started as a fork of the now defunct Mandriva Linux. Mageia isn’t a new Linux distro (in age). Otherwise it is just a normal Linux distro from what I can tell.

IIRC, it is a current limitation of rpm-ostree, which results in an ISO that is nearly double in size.

Pretty sure Waydroid uses the x86 image of LineageOS, cus last time I used it (like a year or more ago) I had to get x86 version of APKs I wanted to install.

I moved an older relative to Mint and I regret it. Weird lagging and display server crashes sometimes, probably because of X11. Plus it’s release cycle is very slow, so old packages. Ubuntu is far from my favorite distro, but at least it uses a DE with first class Wayland support.

Definitely agree. If they could somehow make it a Flatpak with minimal permissions I would def check it out. Otherwise, I don’t use any unsandboxed software to avoid apps having arbitrary permissions.

You can think yhat Wayland adoption was artificial, bit X.Org is unmaintained software and no developers are picking up reigns of X11. X is dead.

It is possible on both GNOME and KDE iirc. I never use that feature, but i am sure i saw it in the settings.
