Solarpunk@slrpnk.net•Living Bricks Turn Buildings Into Lush Green Climate Helpers - One Green Planet
15·10 months agoThat’s cool but that image is unrelated. I can’t find any evidence that the bricks described in the article are used. The article also doesn’t name the Dutch engineers, the name of their bricks, or provide any external links.
The building featured in the image is the PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering, Singapore, an award-winning hotel known for its distinctive “hotel-in-a-garden” concept. Designed by renowned local architect WOHA, the hotel incorporates 15,000 square metres of greenery, effectively doubling the site’s green area and earning it Singapore’s Green Mark Platinum rating, the nation’s highest environmental certification.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Rough sleeping to be decriminalised after 200 yearsEnglish
10·11 months agoGovernment scraps 200-year-old law making rough sleeping a criminal offence in England and Wales.
The outdated Vagrancy Act 1824 will be axed for good, reflecting modern attitudes, increased financial support for the homeless and the government’s mission to get to its root causes.
New legislation will target real crimes instead such as organised begging by gangs and trespassing—protecting communities without penalising vulnerable people.

Spaceflight@sh.itjust.works•The Voyager 1 spacecraft underwent another "surgery" in March, 23 light-hours away from earthEnglish
5·1 year agoVoyager 1 is a space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977, as part of the Voyager program to study the outer Solar System and the interstellar space beyond the Sun’s heliosphere. It was launched 16 days after its twin, Voyager 2. It communicates through the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) to receive routine commands and to transmit data to Earth. Real-time distance and velocity data are provided by NASA and JPL. At a distance of 167.34 AU (25.0 billion km; 15.6 billion mi) from Earth as of February 2025, it is the most distant human-made object from Earth. The probe made flybys of Jupiter, Saturn, and Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. NASA had a choice of either conducting a Pluto or Titan flyby; exploration of the moon took priority because it was known to have a substantial atmosphere. Voyager 1 studied the weather, magnetic fields, and rings of the two gas giants and was the first probe to provide detailed images of their moons. Wikipedia
