1·8 months agoThings break in all cars. Do you have any data to back up your claim of reduced reliability? Seems they’re doing just fine in Europe.
I’m looking for a launcher that can hide a folder under a typical icon. I love the swipe up to open the folder, or tap to open the app functionality from Nova. It looks nice but still has everything i commonly use just a swipe and tap away.
I’ve taken a quick look at Lawnchair, Kvaesitso, and KISS, but those don’t seem to have that capability.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of August 3rd
3·10 months agoI just finished Far Cry 5…Seemed like a fitting time for some cult destruction.
Overall it wasn’t too bad. Maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10. I found it getting repetitive after halfway through the second (of three) regions. The side stories weren’t very interesting any more, so it was just a little grindy to the end.
I will say, this was one of the few games that got me on the disgust (not sure that’s really the right word for it) meter a couple times. No spoilers, but the story Jess Black shares about the cult’s doings is quite revolting.
Probably on to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 next for me.
E: One thing I just remembered that was quite well done that I don’t often (literally) hear in other games was the quality of sounds coming from afar. A commotion in the distance actually sounded like it was in the distance, and not just a less quiet sound. Some mushed directionality while a little bit of reverb and reflection really made it sound realistic.

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Study: Going electric cleaner overall than keeping an old car running
2·10 months agoYou could do a quick comparison with the kgCO2e/kWh of each grid. I believe Germany recently transitioned to natural gas from nuclear, so they probably have higher grid emissions than you’d expect.

5·11 months agoI disagree, conservatives reduce taxes on corporations and the rich. Alphabet has all the incentive to subtly (or not) nudge the narrative so more people vote conservative.

5·11 months agoI definitely notice the political ragebait suggestions too. I’ve had all kinds of blocking on the platform for a long time, so it’s scary to think (but not overly surprising) that that is what they’re trying to spoonfeed everyone.

2·1 year agoI’ve got a green Razr 50 ultra and I love it. Especially like that it came with a similar colour case for it.
That wood one looks really cool and I’m sure the texture would add some much needed grip.

Android@lemdro.id•Probably preaching to the choir here, but headphone jacks are really a must, and USB-c adapters have their limitsEnglish
211·1 year agoI actually quite like the Bluetooth DAC I got because of the disappearance of my headphone jack. It breaks that physical attachment of my headphones to my phone while giving very good quality audio.
I’d recommend checking out the Fiio BTR line if interested.

3·1 year agoNot that I’m familiar with. I would guess that the limited processing power of a phone would bring a pretty poor experience though.

7·1 year agoThere are quite a few options for running your own LLM. Ollama makes it fairly easy to run (with a big selection of models - there’s also Hugging Face with even more models to suit various use cases) and OpenWebUI makes it easy to operate.
Some self-hosting experience doesn’t hurt, but it’s pretty straightforward to configure if you follow along with Networkchuck in this video.

7·1 year agoI’ve got mine on a subdomain through a Cloudflare tunnel that points to my local nginx proxy manager (with wildcard SSL certs) then to immich. You can do access control through Cloudflare as well. Quite low risk in my opinion as long as you protect it properly.

37·1 year agoAt least in my experience, enjoyable work on a project you have control over is quite different from working on projects for the corporate overlords with unreasonable expectations and deadlines. The former can be a really good outlet to remind you how rewarding work can be when you have control of how, when and what you work on.

This is the key missing piece for me too. All of the things I use on my phone are accessible through the five icons on my dock. Whether it’s a simple swipe to open another app or swipe to open a folder, none of the “alternatives” have similar functionality.
I don’t want to search for things, I want at most two taps to open the app I want.
