To be fair AI models are being replaced multiple times a year these days… So yeah, in 2 years it should be killed, because improved models should exist.

c/Environment@chat.maiion.com•Removing carbon from Earth's atmosphere may not 'fix' climate changeEnglish
2·3 年前Headline feels a bit click-baity. They do say that their model shows temperatures correct if we remove carbon. It just isn’t an immediate effect, instead taking about 200 years after being removed…
So long term, removing carbon is still absolutely the correct thing to do.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Xbox's biggest crisis right now isn't games. It's hardware. (Opinion - Jez Corden)English
9·3 年前Exactly. Microsoft also has the benefit of double-dipping - they have Xbox, but they also get a healthy cut from PC as a vast majority of gamers are going to be running Windows.
This article feels very much like a fanboy wanting to keep the stupid “console wars” going, when really Microsoft is happy to just rake in the cash.
Usually by the second or third question they got as much out of Google Assistant as they are going to get (because they just keep asking variations of the same thing, but don’t quite grasp that it is really the same question, or they have now gotten to a hyper specific question). By question 5 or 6 they typically are done with Google and come to us to discuss further.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why would you use a virtual assistant?English
4·3 年前Summed up: convenience, and curiosity.
I can lay in bed and ask if to turn off the lights, and all lights in the house shut off (including the ones the kids forgot to turn off). That convenience is phenomenal.
And my kids who are too young to own their own devices can ask it questions. Whatever is on their random little minds, which very frequently leads them to a topic that they then come to us to discuss in depth. I love that it helps them foster their curiosity about the world around them and often enough leads to healthy conversations with Mom or Dad.

Movies and TV Shows@lemmy.film•‘Rick and Morty’ Team Gives Update on Recasting Process Following Justin Roiland’s Dismissal
1032·3 年前By all accounts the past couple seasons he just shows up drunk to record his lines, be obnoxious in the office for a couple hours and then go home.
The actual writing and content hasn’t really involved him. So assuming they can find a voice that isn’t too jarring, odds are the average person won’t know or care and the show will be just fine.
I bet Disney loves having Bluey and Bingo right next to fuck spez and My Little Porno.
I was also confused about that until seeing this article… Yay direct war with Russia rather than proxy war… Wooo…

12·3 年前Oh boy, between the writers strike and actors strike we are in for a year of reality shows being shoved out the door…
AirBNB is only good if it is an extremely unique/convenient location and there are no hotels reasonably nearby. Otherwise Hotel absolutely > AirBNB
Thank you for the web link, TIL it is much more common than I was aware!
In all seriousness, is the Dev using the build date as the version number…? July 8th, 2023 at 12:34am - vYY.MM.DD-HH.mm
Unusual approach for sure as you have no clue if it is a major version change or minor bug fixes.

3·3 年前Tried it with 5 adults around me, 5 for 5 it was accurate. Most that agreed it was art had the stipulation that it looked like Children’s art, but that still was technically art even if they didn’t think it required much skill.

872·3 年前This is insanely cool… I don’t know why it never occurred to me that bots on other platforms could work here due to federation, but it makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing!

Technology@lemmy.world•Plex lays off 20% of its workforce amid advertising slowdownEnglish
2·3 年前Not shocked that the FAST model has unpredictable revenue downturns. But I was surprised to read that Plex has roughly 175 employees - that seems way, way higher than I would have expected.

Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit protest plunges user engagement, site activity and ad portal visitsEnglish
1·3 年前Oh without a doubt.
I do miss some of the silly quirky fun subs (r/HyruleEngineering I’m looking at you), but my normal usage needs have been met by a blend of Lemmy and Kbin (if Lemmy is having a rough day, I subscribed to the same communities on Kbin and can access from that side, or vice-versa).

Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit protest plunges user engagement, site activity and ad portal visitsEnglish
10·3 年前“plunges” by a whole 10%, and primarily only during the initial 2 days. Has since mostly rebounded. That is disappointing.
Will see what happens July 1st of course when apps finally stop working.

Programming@programming.dev•One company found that too much JavaScript costs them $700,000 per year, per kilobyte.English
20·3 年前That was what I got from the article too. That the 700k was lost opportunity due to a poor user experience, not that it actually was them spending more money.
I feel like suspending the specific rules is the only viable long term protest. As much fun as John Oliver pics are, eventually people will tire of the meme.

Here “consume” means far more than just “drank”. If you take a shower at home, you are consuming water. Wash your car? Consume water. Water your garden? Consume water.
