Local and state primaries are a thing, and local politics probably affect you more anyway. It’s better to start a movement from the bottom up rather than top down.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your most profound "small world" moment?
6·2 years agoI was in Iceland for vacation, so I was waiting in line for a rental car. I hear a very familiar voice in front of me and I realized it was a good friend from high school I whom hadn’t seen or really talked to in years.
Just use Clojure****
This is my go to during cold months, though I usually see it made with scotch instead of bourbon.

10·2 years agoThere’s a lot more on the ballots than just the president. Local politicians will probably affect you more than who is in the white house.
I’ve heard it kind of blows.

9·2 years agoYou really do. I’m pretty sure I see your comments in every thread I read.
I’m just a newbie myself, but I think it might be better if you simplify what you’re doing a bit. I started the Starting Strength Novice Linear Progression about 2 months ago and have seen noticeable changes in my body and measurable changes in my strength – eg I’ve improved ~100lbs (45kg) on my squat and ~40lbs (18kg) on my bench.
The program is super simple, just 3x week and 4 exercises to start with. The goal is to increase the weight on each lift by 5 lbs every workout.
You switch between these two workouts:
`A Squat Bench Deadlift
B Squat Press Deadlift`
The trick is, from my own experience at least, is that you need to eat a bit more than you’re used to (at least to start with). I feel it when I haven’t eaten or slept enough the day before the gym.
Check out this page for more info https://startingstrength.com/get-started/programs
They have some really good videos on how to do the exercises on their YouTube channel.
There’s also a bunch of other variations I’ve seen of this routine, like the Grey Skull LP, but they all look pretty much the same to me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•what are your fun, low stakes new year resolutions?
11·2 years agoThis is probably one of the most common resolutions…but I’m going to (continue) to work out.
I started a strength training program in the beginning of November and have been consistently hitting the gym 3 days a week. It’s been great for both my physical and mental health.

I recently built a new PC and decided to install Guix on it. I’ve been using arch for years (since around 2005 or so), and wanted to try out declarative system management. I also am a heavy Emacs user and love Lisps, so figured guix was a perfect fit over nix (which I do use on macos).
So…maybe we should have a way to differentiate Android from what people mean when they talk about Linux distros. I propose GNU/Linux.
That’s fair, but most people don’t.

To be fair, blue states are blue because the people there voted for Harris.
