  • Stalin and Mao remain constant blockages for when I talk with my more soc-dem friends. Was with some comrades at the May Day rally in my city recently and my more soc-dem friend noticed one of them handing out pamphlets to a reading/analysis of On Contradiction by Mao, and they immediately brought up how “Mao killed millions and was a ruthless dictator etc etc etc” and in the moment we just kind of brushed it off because the speeches were starting - it makes me wanna scream sometimes.

For me it was as easy as distrusting the current system and understanding how deep the propaganda goes, alongside understanding the breadth and depth of actual history - but when trying to explain that all it took to radicalize me was simply reading accurate history to libs they look at me like I just did a Nazi salute.

It’s becoming my latest obsession honestly - understanding how to communicate the fact that history isn’t just one sided, and that people then acted as they do now: with limited info and hundreds of complications that need to be taken into account; that history isn’t some flat chain of events but actually a huge yarn ball of cause and effect and that yes, sometimes things devolved into unnecessary chaos and gasp even necessary violence.

It makes me so frustrated sometimes, like people don’t engage enough with history to understand the why. It’s so much easier to simply say this thing bad and therefore all things attached to it bad.

I just want to shake them out of their placated stupor and make them understand that 1. An entirely new system of organized society is being tested and there will be mistakes and 2. Motherfuckers I know you hate were the ones fighting against it violently and sometimes can only be met with in kind. 😤

    Welcome comrade! ✊️

Genuinely, the discussions happening here are a very good intro to compare/contrast to narratives that get thrown at people from imperialist and bourgeoisie media, on top of everything else. It’s also got many links to good sources of info on leftist thought and alternative perspectives.

Also - not sure if others have mentioned, but sometimes it can be difficult maintaining optimism when learning about the real world through a communist lense; laying bare the countless injustices and vitriolic, grotesque reactionary behavior of those who oppress us and how they do so can be a daunting task to open your eyes to all at once, so don’t forget your own mental health on your journey.

    A better world is possible!

  • We do what we can, comrade. It may not be the be all end all of everything, but every little bit helps.

I’m just starting my organizing journey via tenant organizing and grassroots union radicalization, and I feel you, I really do.

We all have our own strengths and weaknesses, and I think finding your own niche helps ward off the drag.

You got about a year on me, so I’m sure you’ve heard this all before - all I can do is express both commiseration and solidarity. Do what you can, don’t burn out, and keep up the revolutionary optimism.

  • Not like decapitation strikes aren’t a type of strategy. But I agree, it does seem odd in the face of how things used to go when the empire was more “imperious”.

I think we can probably blame man-child tech oligarchs and their pet AIs for this as well, somehow.

Part of me wants to believe that the ghouls at the top believe so much in great man theory and love huffing their own fumes; that they think if their enemy were to do the same to them, everything would fall apart without their superhuman charisma, project management capabilities, and business acumen.

Its a dying empire riddled with sycophants all sucking each other off probably speckled with a few remaining competent generals who have to fight tooth and nail to gather military resources for any operation other than ones that help defend the zionist entity.

Part of me wants to believe that, part of me fears that it’s closer to the truth than I’d believe, and yet another part of me fears that it’s further, too.
