  • You can definitely make up some reason why this UFO would be able to match the Earth’s speed without requiring all of physics to be wrong, but it’s actually pretty easy to get people like this to believe that everything we’ve been taught is a lie to cover up some grand truth that’s being kept from us. It makes them feel smart and validates their common paranoia that world is against them.

It benefits the grifters leave these inconsistencies in because it weeds out the people who weren’t fully hooked, and makes the ones who do continue to believe more delusional, isolating them from their support network and making them more reliant on the grifter. I unfortunately watched this happen with my mom, who ended up dying after spending most of her money on random scams claiming to cure cancer because she’d been convinced that the conventional treatments were the real scams.

Yes, I am are aware that while publishing helps validate science, it is not infallible, nor is it presented as such outside of people who haven’t even tried to understand the process. There’s a pretty big gap between “all published ‘science’ is fake” and “all published ‘science’ is real.” that I, and most other rational people, fall under.

  • Honestly, I think this is a good thing. Sure, it means that I often don’t finish shows or games, but I also don’t care to, which suggests that it wasn’t important to me anyway. I’m being more true to myself than to the expectations of society as a whole, which I think is healthy. I usually go back to an abandoned franchise when I’m ready, anyway, even if it’s a decade or more later.

  • How does posting a quote from the aftermath of a school shooting constitute a real threat of a new shooting? It’s relevant because it was in the aftermath of Kirk’s shooting, it wouldn’t be relevant to post a quote of “we have to get over it” if you were trying to make a threat about a future shooting.

Sure they might have taken him in on the bogus, unfounded claim that he was somehow making a threat, but the real message they’re trying to send is that being outspoken against the rise of fascism will get you thrown in jail.

There’s no point in trying to explain the bullshit excuse, because it never mattered in the first place. The judge “thought” it was a legit threat because they’re just another part of the corrupt system trying to quash this kind of discourse. If anything they went after the former cop because they want to keep any others from switching sides.

  • Most of my favorite games are already on all the “Top PS2 Games” lists, but my absolute favorite video game of all time is Steambot Chronicles, which got pretty much no attention at all. It’s really fun, with nice cell-shaded graphics and a bunch of stuff to do from piloting a big customizable robot to shooting pool to excavating fossils to decorating an apartment to playing a bunch of musical instruments with unique rhythm minigame mechanics! There are a bunch of dialogue options, too, affecting things from minor shifts in how your friends talk about you to a complete alignment shift to the enemy’s side, which obviously leads to a few different endings. Regardless of what ending you get you can still do the postgame content, though, so you don’t have to worry about getting any kind of “bad” ending. I’ve played it more times than I can count, and just keep coming back every year or two.

  • I got lucky for sure. A lot of my friends in the office tried to keep working from home after covid and got let go. I just happened to time it perfectly where I asked a little later, after the higher ups got worried they were letting too much of the younger talent go by being so rigid with the in-office mandate.

I thought for sure they’d let me go when they found a replacement willing to be in the office, but it’s been years and none of the new hires in my department have picked it up nearly well enough to take over my responsibilities. I think it’s settled down enough by now that I’m pretty safe with my work from home exception.

  • As soon as I got a taste of working from home back in 2020, I knew I was never going back to the office. I bought a nice chair and built a good computer, and now I just hang out every day while working when I feel like it. I’ve come up with enough shortcuts and workarounds that I can do my job over twice as fast as my coworkers, though I’ll never tell my boss that. I do have OT sometimes, but I get paid well for it, and still rarely have to put in a full 8 hours of actual work in a day, even when getting an extra several hours of time and a half. People look down on hourly pay, but it’s way better than salary for times like those.

  • I think of good news during times like these like I’d think of finding $10 on the ground while watching my house burn down. We’re losing so, so much more than we’re gaining day after day. Sure, take some time to rest when you need it, but never take your eyes off the prize - we need to start truly preparing to physically fight back against the rise of fascism around the world, and we need to do it yesterday. Allow yourself a minute or two to be happy about good news if it helps, but don’t let it distract you.
