In my ideal postrevolutionary society, there would be special political/economic zones where anarchists could live and try to build a model for the society of the future, sheltered from external threats by the communist state. I don’t think anarchists and MLs necessarily need to be at odds.

But I don’t think you can call your revolution successful if, within a few years, some external force is able to show up, wreck everything you were doing, and take over. It’s not enough to just temporarily wrest control away and set up your committees and your resource distribution system and declare victory. You have to establish long-term security and stability. If you don’t, you haven’t had a successful revolution.

Friend, I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that you are experiencing more comfort than you deserve, when you aren’t able to get basic medical care. You and your family are not the problem here, nor even all of the people like you collectively, but the system as a whole, one you didn’t choose and obviously don’t support.

Yes, things are going to get worse here in the US. No way around that at this point, unfortunately. The next few years in particular are going to be ugly. But to the extent that you and yours suffer because of that, it is undeserved; you do not need to atone or balance some cosmic scale of economic justice somehow.

As communists it is not our goal to castigate people for their privilege, nor to murder everyone on the wrong side of some mysterious dividing line between proletariat and petit bourgeois. Our goal is to reorient the relations between the people and the means of production, to focus the economy on improving the human condition, and more broadly, to prove that a better world is possible by building it. There is no requisite amount of self-flagellation necessary to call yourself a leftist, you have only to work to advance the cause in whatever ways are within your ability given your material circumstances (including time pressures and mental health challenges).

I started listening to Chapo and hanging out on r/CTH back in 2018. It took literal years of chipping away at Western media narratives to push my family left.

Honestly one of the bigger things was introducing Means Morning News (it’s a 4-day-a-week news program offerered by the leftist co-op subscription service Means.tv, which costs $10/mo, but the Friday show is posted free most weeks) and getting them to watch it regularly, but it took a lot of pointing out the BS in Western media to get to that point. As I’m sure you know, the slant of Western media is very obvious once you’re aware of it, but your family, like most people, has been very effectively trained not to see it, and it will take time to break through that.

For some of us, life will get back on track, with the petrifying fear of an imminent repeat. And for some of us, life won’t get back on track. Those people will walk among us like the living dead. That’s what we voted for. That’s how it is. We need to get used to the sad reality in our homeland.
