  • I like their reasoning behind the differently sized chunks ngl. According to text they have printed on the inside of the paper wrapping it’s because in the chocolate industry (and many other places) wealth is also distributed unevenly: a few go grab all the too big chunks (big corpo grabbing everything for themselves) and the last ones (aka the ones who actually harvest the cocoa in this case) will be left with the tiny scraps only.

Now whether that absolutely needs to be put into the size of the pieces is debatable, I tend to have bars for myself so worst case I grab a knife and chop the big ones up. Or just bite them in half.

  • Mine could have “updated” to Win11 but I turned to Linux. It was really easy to install and get running, I even had less (less, not none) problems with the printer driver than I had back on windows for whatever reason.

I know some specific programs do not have a Linux alternative (yet?) but if you’re not one of those who needs them going Linux let’s you give that PC of yours more lifetime. And even if you are you can just swap your old device to Linux to try stuff out with, since you need to get a new device for Win11 anyways… These devices are only junk if Windows is all you can think in.

We all can start running away as much as possible from Windows to force them to improve their crappy aspects, the big problem is to get enough people to start running.

  • bullsheet.de might be something.

It is a German website, but it’s free (you can donate if you wish) and you can run it through a website translation service, deepl or whatever to read the explanations. Looks simple enough imo, I just didn’t have a reason to use this particular service myself yet.

It’s nothing you should use for sensitive data or in case you absolutely need something to be saved long term (the website says so itself) however if you just want to make a quick list for potential gifts it should be good enough.

  • Yeah I agree there. The term “AI” is treated as if it were the coming of God and the solution to all (non)existing problems and who would dare question God when he looks into your face? (Provided you believe in God that is.) Which is a major part of the actually existing problem with that stuff.

People already look at me funny when I call a smartphone my language’s equivalent of “mobile phone”. I always explain that well… it may be a phone among things, but it’s NOT smart. Yet somehow many seem to believe that because it has “smart” in it’s name it’s actually better, when actually it really heavily depends on what you want/need.

  • I wouldn’t lump all of AI together tbh. If it’s used to help doctors diagnose things (like early stage cancer or whatever) or used to better sort flashcards for you when you’re using those to learn something? What we call AI (I’m honestly kinda missing the “I” part everywhere) can be awesome there.

The absolute garbage that should never have existed is this so-called “creative AI” that just regurgitates bits of previously stolen art.

  • I’m not exactly sure about what vacuum to recommend, as mine is rather old but still working, however I read your

It must be able to deal with a lot of cat hair and litter

as you using your vacuum to clean up cat litter boxes?

If yes, I’d recommend looking into “Litter Locker”. The company behind it is Canadian afaik (took me a good while to find that info when I looked it up though… the website is absolutely not ideal there). It’s a smell-proof box where you can dump the dirty litter into, freeing up space in your vacuum amd allowing you to keep going for a while before having to throw it out. Should this be something for you, the requirements a vacuum has to meet definitely should go down or maybe your current one will still be fine then as you only mentioned suction power being too low for cat litter.
