I’ve been around so many sites trying to figure it out but the consensus is that no one really knows… it just kind of happened. It’s a legit photo and not shopped though

Programmer Humor@lemmy.ml•When IT insists on autogenerated email addresses…
10·3 years agoWe’ve had a couple funny ones where I work. I provision users in our call centers phone system.
[email protected] is the most innocent one I’ve come across. Emails are only internal for us so no one really says anything since customers don’t see them

1·3 years agoIs t there a mlemmy bug causing that? I don’t use mlemmy but I think I heard one of the lemmy apps having that bug
I was referring to Stewart Rhodes. But I think we’ll be seeing some bigger names in the near future. Fingers crossed for more than 18 years
The ringleader, the guy who planned the whole thing, who planned to overthrow the government and assassinate members of congress. He got 18 years in prison. If you think that’s egregious then there’s something wrong with you. Frankly that’s not long enough. People died that day. They wanted to kill others. And you think that most people getting a couple months is too much?

Technology@lemmy.world•Seven major automakers to build EV charging network with 30,000 chargers
112·3 years agoSooo what, another 20k for California and everyone else splits the rest? Sorry, but it’s so difficult to get excited for this when I see these plans push more to California, but on the east coast I have a single fast charger within 30 miles (proof. No filters on PlugShare except limiting it to CCS. Since I don’t own a Tesla NACS is hidden. https://imgur.com/a/TUbTMh0)
They’ll cram them in every corner of every city, but the people who are worried about range are the ones outside of the city, not on major highways or anything. Btw, one of those doesn’t count since it’s a dealership and is for Nissan owners only.

Tried this at work the other day. Apparently this doesn’t work in call centers… anyone hiring?

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•POV , your secretary bought a new car for her daily commute to the grocery stroad.
4·3 years agoIf it is it’s close. Anything over 26,000 lbs is automatically CDL which this looks close to.
Further anything over 9ft wide or 13’6” tall is automatically an oversized load. Oversized load drivers are required to have a permit for every trip and the requirements to get hired to get those permits are pretty high. No history of drug or alcohol addiction (even if recovered) 20/40 vision with a 70° field of view in both eyes. As well as being experienced in driving for several years at least already. The weight is iffy. But this looks pretty wide. I’m fairly certain either the height or weight puts this into oversized load territory.

Reddit Migration@kbin.social•Is there a Kbin front-end that looks like the new Reddit UI?
4·3 years agoThere are tons of style scripts so I’m sure someone has come up with something there. As for an actual interface change, there is no official API yet so apps are just scraping data and stuff until one is built. I’m testing with Artemis now and it’s looking promising. It’s inspired by Apollo, so it doesn’t feel quite like Reddit, but I think something will come along.

Fediverse@kbin.social•From the CEO of Mastodon: What to know about Threads
3·3 years agoI don’t feel like this is a 1-1 comparison with the XMPP issue.
With XMPP users joined servers and then Google started working with the protocol allowing those users contact books to increase by hundreds overnight. Then when Google dropped, many people built work connections through those chats and still wanted to talk so they migrated to Google as it was the simpler platform.
But fediverse isn’t about talking to individuals for the most part. Mastadon gets the closest, but even then it’s about following updates and quickly getting ideas out to large groups, not the 1-1 communication of a chat. Fediverse is mostly about talking in communities. When threads defederates after getting a bunch of users, those users will lose entire communities instead of just a couple individuals that can switch platforms. And asking a community of hundreds to move to your preferred social isn’t how it works. People go towards communities, not companies. When threads defederates (which will happen) they will lose members, many communities will drop in membership, but I think the fediverse will be in the same spot after that it would be in if threads never existed. Not the same as today. But if we ignore threads and try to project the growth out 5 years. That’s where I think we’ll be if threads defederates in 5 years.

Fediverse@kbin.social•How does the fediverse handle upvotes on different instances? Does each instance have its own count or are upvotes summed up across multiple instances if the upvotes system (upvotes/boosts/likes) is s
1·3 years agoSimple solution, let us see who upvotes a post. Kind of like how Facebook lets you see you liked your post. It wouldn’t prevent posts from getting brigaded with bot votes, but it would let us see that it is happening. Oh 1k votes on this post? But half of them are from [email protected]? Probably bot manipulation.
When you are charged for premium, what does the charge show as on your account? Cause when I pay for a subscription through Apple, it is Apple that charges my bank and my receipt tells me why. I would imagine it would be the same with other providers so knowing who is charging your bank account will tell you where the charge is coming from

I have no pity for this man and he should die. However, I don’t believe the government should have the power to execute its citizens. This case may be as black and white as they come, but this gives the government the ability to make the argument in some fairly gray cases. He shouldn’t be sentenced to death. Life in prison with no chance of ever being released, sure. But never should the government be allowed to kill its own people for any reason.
