I understood it more as Musk betraying his previous fanbase. Those that used to think that he was a positive force, investing in cool things. Before he revealed himself as a deranged asshole.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is an extremely wholesome fact that could help brighten someone's day?
5·2 years agoIs this site legit? I just got a popup telling me I had a virus on my phone and I should click on the button to remove it. With a countdown from 3 minutes.

politics @lemmy.world•The Moment of Truth | The reelection of Donald Trump would mark the end of George Washington’s vision for the presidency—and the United States.
1·2 years agoI get your sarcasm. My comment wasn’t meant to be that deep and yes I can see that his success is a symptom of a deeper problem. I just thought that him being almost comically corrupt, detestable and yet successful is a one off.

Technology@lemmy.world•DOJ proposes breakup and other big changes to end Google search monopolyEnglish
3·2 years agoYes but the power of it is that you can in effect refine your search using natural language, like talking to a person, as it remembers the last 2-3 exchanges.
And it presents the information the way you asked to see it.
For example (my side of the “conversation”):
- What is hamas?
- Compared to Hezbollah?
- what are the differences between Shia and Sunni?
The citations confirm the information, they are not the end goal. The added value is the fact that the information is pre-digested and presented in a way that matches my learning process. It’s a lot easier for me to assimilate information by getting answers to questions that I’ve asked.

12·2 years agoAs far as I know Google and Bing return AI results just above the usual web page results.
In addition AI LLM tools like Copilot (the mobile app) and Perplexity which cite their sources with links to websites really make it easier to weed out the BS from LLM answers, if you use them carefully. In my case, these tools replace search engines in 80% of the searches that I do.

politics @lemmy.world•The Moment of Truth | The reelection of Donald Trump would mark the end of George Washington’s vision for the presidency—and the United States.
3·2 years agoI always saw him like an anomaly, an unexpected improbable blip in history that may have an effect over decades but the disruptions it brought will go away… eventually.
When he came into power I immediately thought of something in the Foundation series (I try to avoid spoiling it because even if the books have been around for some time people are discovering it through the Apple TV series).
So yeah it’ll get better but perhaps not in our lifetime…

politics @lemmy.world•Trump Is Running a Disinformation Campaign, Not a Political Campaign
13·2 years agoHowever you look at it it always boils down to marketing and comms. Everyone looks for the best way to get the votes, testing how far they can go. But the left can’t afford to be unethical because that’s part of their identity and they would lose their core voters. The right however… Found trump.
It sounds lame but the best way for the democrats to win is to get people to vote. I believe that was the single reason behind Obama’s ama on Reddit a few years back.
Exactly.
And India doesn’t have chillies add Italy doesn’t have tomatoes… Where do we stop?

World News@lemmy.ml•French President Emmanuel Macron announces new right-wing government
15·2 years agoThe assemblée nationale can block and cause the prime minister to resign can’t they? Can the left wing alliance not join forces again to veto the pm appointment? I guess the problem is that they managed to do it to repel the le pen’s party but not all left leaning parties are similarly united against Barnier’s government.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Washing your hands with plain soap is probably better than using antibacterial soap in the long runEnglish
5·2 years agoThen what do people mean when they say normal soap and antibacterial soap and how does that affect what I should be using after handling raw meat or just going to the toilets etc?
They should’ve said “all other inhabitants” to remove the ambiguity.

Android@lemdro.id•Why I refuse to upgrade - 8 minutes video explaining why it's not that interesting to upgrade phones nowadaysEnglish
3·2 years agoAre you really getting updates though? Samsung latest phones are expected to be getting updates for 7 years but as far as I know the s10 range isn’t officially supported anymore. Samsung don’t need to provide security updates to your phone anymore. I think the last one was Q4 of 2023 and it made the news because it was unexpected.
I get the message but who ever said they were self made?
You could also read it differently nowadays 15 years later with all the emissions scandal. Probably wouldn’t want to trust Volkswagen with such statements huh.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why in the year 2024 and with all the knowledge humans have now do people still believe in religion?
251·2 years agoWhat’s “wrong” in your question is the assumption that a) the only reason religions exist is the lack of knowledge and b) that the knowledge we have answers all the questions that people seek answers to when they turn to religion. I think if you question these assumptions then you’ll easily start to find the answers. Otherwise see all the other comments.

Technology@lemmy.world•'It hasn't delivered': The spectacular failure of self-checkout technologyEnglish
302·2 years agoThis article really sounds like it describes an alternate reality to me. Interesting to see how many people in the comments seem to hate self checkouts but here in the UK they seem to work fine. Shops seem to have found the right balance. In the same shop you’ll have queues advancing rapidly at self checkouts and people run tills with shorter queues for customers who prefer the human interaction.

I don’t need to change phone. I like my S10+. It does what I need. But I feel I’ll have to change it soonish if I want to continue using for online banking etc.

What’s weird is that I can’t find even one article about her death in the more mainstream French newspapers such as Le Monde or Le Figaro or Libération. There’s something in Ouest France. Did anyone find more?
They’re currently not treating her death as suspicious. I know it doesn’t mean that it isn’t but I think it’s worth mentioning.
