tailscale is the easiest option. learning curve isn’t too bad, but definitely a hurdle for users.

fair assessment. there are two major features i still miss from plex:

1. bulk editing metadata
2. smart playlists

also setting up users with tailscale is a struggle, even the ones relatively tech literate.

context is key. like all recent major plex changes, this isn’t about making a better experience for users. it’s all about making their shitty ad-supported free streaming service as prominent as possible in the main Plex app. That is their new business, and all of the old self-hosting features are taking a back seat.

by tvOS do you mean infuse? for me infuse’s UI is too lacking, that’s the main thing keeping me from switching to jellyfin.

plex has been making actrocious UI decisions ever since they decided to push their ad streaming service. the enshittification train has left the station.

i had to go with emby. jellyfin still has no apple tv app, and no way to bulk edit library item metadata. maybe even more stuff i didn’t get to before i had to abandon it.

still bullshit that this is even a mistake that can be made. and the enshittification will only get worse.
