Ever since the MS Surface I’ve been a big proponent of this sort of device convergence. Super excited to see this develop.

I don’t think I’ve tried a client that doesn’t. I just assumed they all do at this point.

Well iPad and iPhone did have the same OS at first, so they knew how to do that. I would have preferred when they forked iPad OS out for them to have converged desktop and iPad instead of making a 3rd distinct OS variant. I can’t reasonably say that a docked iPad is the same as a Mac, as commercial apps I use have different versions, with different capabilities, for iPad and Mac. Things like Adobe Lightroom andIK Multimedia Amplitube. But my Surface Pro has one set of apps whether I’m docked at home, using a clamshell keyboard case, or as a tablet and pen. That’s more useful to me than having a really well polished and dedicated tablet OS.

I’m thinking this is the opposite direction, with the enhanced desktop mode in Android 16. You hook your phone up to a KVM and get Chrome desktop, complete with containerized Linux apps and your mobile apps staying on your mobile device.

Apple doesn’t exactly try to converge OS platform, even forking off iPad OS from iOS.

Microsoft’s converged desktop and tablet OS hasn’t been well regarded.

Google’s efforts to make Android well suited on tablets has been poorly maintained.

I did find ChromeOS Flex on an old Surface Pro 3 to be a pretty good tablet experience. I’m cautiously optimistic about this, though I haven’t tried the desktop mode on my Pixel 7.

I mean yeah better OS upgrade support would be the bees knees. But at 13" may as well just get a proper laptop or a Lenovo Duet, in my opinion.

Only the one screen size?

Don’t think so. Just normal usage. I wasn’t trying to assert that the 3a had some design issue or systemic manufacturing flaw. The port just eventually got kinda loose and any perturbance of the phone or cable would wiggle enough to lose connection.

My Pixel 3a had to be retired when it could no longer “hold” with plugged in cable (and had to be chargeda day).

Pay attention to what bands your carrier supports vs what the device supports as there are many regional submodels of tablets and phones.

Yeah, that’s why I wouldn’t buy from a non-US distributor.

Not too comfortable, I must admit. More inclined to get a new wifi-only tablet and tether my phone.

I just noticed the Tab A9+ that does have a 5G option appears to only be on the model with 4G of memory. I don’t know how big a deal that is. I’m coming from a Lenovo TB-x304f with 2GB of RAM so it’d still be a huge jump up.

Anyone remember the Moto Lapdock from like 15 years ago? This is better, for sure, but that’s a pretty long road from there to here!

I’ve used Lineage, and Cyanogen before it, it worked fine for me. Doesn’t work out for you, and that’s ok, because you have options.

That’s a ridiculous metric. Not every human has and uses a smartphone. Not all of the ones that do use Android. Not all the Android users use Lineage. The only percentage that makes sense is that of total LineageOS users.

auto-correct typo. Meant to say non-proton domain (like protonmail.com, proton.me, etc). You can forward the @gmail.com addresses to your Proton mailbox, but there is no way for your to send as those gmail.com addresses from your Proton mailbox in the same way you can send as non gmail.com addresses from your gmail mailbox. You can send as an address from a domain that you own and configure all the DNS records for Proton to handle.

It’s not a free vs paid feature. You simply cannot send or reply with a non-profit domain that you don’t own. This feature has already been requested several times on the uservoice site

Zelensky isn’t really proposing for NATO to admit only part of Ukraine. He’s suggesting the existing recognized borders be admitted, but only unoccupied parts of Ukraine fall under article 5 for now. That would prevent Russia from occupying any more land and hopefully bring them to a negotiating table to peacefully return the occupied land. After which the whole of Ukraine would fall under article 5.
