  • You can be pretty technical/capable and still write that article (especially if you have technical expertise outside programming). I have never felt so seen.

I worked my way up from arduino -> RasPi -> Debian -> Self hosting quite a few things. I’m very much a hobbyist/novice, but I’m used to learning. It is so hard to read some documentation and understand what something even does sometimes. This goes double for incredibly useful tools for monitoring/implementing other tools. Like I swear I read the kubernetes descriptions 30x before I realized what in the hell it actually does, and now I’m probably about to break my entire home network with it because I think it’s cool as hell.

Also, to your comment specifically: I can get sensors on PCBs I personally made collecting data, throwing it through my own MQTT broker, hosting a dashboard etc, all at a remote site across state lines. I have no idea wtf markdown is. I use yaml for HA stuff with the ESPs, but I don’t know why markdown is a thing and it’s not just python.

And I am 1000% sure there is a very good reason for 98% of this. But yes I found this article hilarious. In my personal circle of hell all nouns end in “-ly”.

  • hahaha see! All kidding aside as long as you have an RO system you’re probably fine. I went for years making a gallon or so at a time with a sink adapter and collecting rainwater, but my background is in water and control systems, so I got bored and took it to far.

If you DO go for a full bog, I recommend those concrete mixing tubs you can get at home depot, and some bulk head fittings from amazon. A few things to watch out for are:

    1. Sizing plumbing to avoid siphoning/annoying gurgling
    2. slime mold/algae abatement.

I have all my “residents” in individual pots with sphagnum, so there’s quite a lot of water, and lots of room for algae growth. I’m in the process of replacing one of the bays (the mixing bins I mentioned) with an artificial media I can grow a living moss bed across (no sunlight to the liquid phase means no algae), but I’ve noticed that does encourage slime molds. It also encourages fungus gnats but it being a carnivorious plant bed… that hasnt been an issue.

  • I loved FC5. Ubisoft gets a lot of crap because they make the same game over and over but there’s a reason they started doing that. Good characters, and the pacing is pretty solid unless you’re a completions (which is your own fault). There’s some weird mechanics that progress the story that kind of break immersion that they chose because of the open world setting, but it’s a solid game. Enjoy!

If you like it, “new dawn” is pretty OK. Wait for it to be cheap, it’s basically really meaty DLC.

  • I think it’s because ones a drug prescribed for a medical condition. So you may have a condition where your doctor says “stay away from cured meats” but might prescribe you a drug that unwittingly has what they’re looking to avoid. And just in general drugs give you a lot of control: there should only be what you know and want in there. Foods a big ol mess of compounds. My heart meds get recalled all the time for less acrylamide than I’d get in a flame grilled burger.

  • Similar to the meme… godamn did they fuck up by not holding geneticists to something close to… SOME standard naming.

Dated a maternal fetal medicine specialist. She’d come home being like “you ever have to explain to someone they have a mutation in the ‘sonic the hedgehog’ gene of their kid?!” If you’re familiar with what it does in fruit flies (when it was named), it’s fucking horrific in humans. Don’t google it.

  • I don’t disagree they did a bad job. Clearly. Again, I don’t even like them in the first place for similar reasons. What I’m saying is there was exactly one way to avoid all of this this week, and we all signed off on it. The democrats didn’t make anyone stay home. The democrats didn’t make anyone vote for Trump. Individuals can’t take the action you described above, but they had an option to stop it from getting worse, and chose not to.

If you think the party is busted fine, I freaking agree. It’s not picking evil from the lesser of the two, it’s picking who you want to fight.

Again I’ll say, the dems didn’t do this, we all did. The dysfunction of a party doesn’t excuse individuals had a choice, and chose this.

  • Yeah no. I hate the democrats, I’m a registered libertarian. The popular vote said they’re fine with project 2025.

I don’t really care what issues anyone had. It was exesetential. We failed. That’s not a party issue, it’s an American issue. I don’t care about turnout, if you didn’t turn out you don’t care. Thats not on the party that’s on you. I don’t care about policy, it’s all about to get worse, we’ve seen it. Parties cease to matter when there’s dead bodies in the halls of government. We all saw the worst fucking coup attempt in history… And it worked. There is no party to blame for that. 2016 came down to poor leadership, this is just… deserved.

    We’ll see what’s left to re-build with.
