We have a 2 phase, 120v or 240v. Standard wall outlets only have 1 phase at 120v and a 15amp limit.

5·1 year agoIt’s not Vger yet but I knew they’d get it back up and running because it must become Vger, we know the outcome here.

Technology@lemmy.world•Elon's Death Machine (aka Tesla) Mows Down Deer at Full Speed , Keeps Going on "Autopilot"English
23·2 years agoHave you hit a deer before or almost hit them in the dark? Yes absolutely 60mph will shorten your stopping distance and reaction time but not nearly enough. Even at 35mph people hit deer all the time because they typically jump out in front. But much faster than 35mph and even standing still in the middle of the road they’re tough to see and stop for. 60mph, not a chance.
KDE Plasma. It came on my steam deck which was my first intro to it, it blew me away and installed it on my laptop and finally ditched Windows shortly after. Works great for me.

32·2 years agoGreat on paper but literally not okay to slow down to 35 mph on the freeway … Where most wild animals are hit at night.
Please do the needful.
This one really grinds my gears! I think it’s because the person can’t even be bothered to describe what they want you to do, just go fix it and don’t bother me with any details.

5·2 years agoI switched to Kubuntu (KDE Plasma with Wayland turned on) and it’s absolutely wonderful.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•There's a reason we aren't as harsh on the Steam Deck. Actually, a couple.
5·2 years agoIt was my steam deck that convinced me to just wipe windows from my laptop and install Kubuntu which is basically the same as steamOS. I had no idea Linux desktop was so good these days. Bye bye windows! I love my steam deck but I also still need a laptop form factor, I can’t always dock it and use it as my PC.

politics @lemmy.world•Nikki Haley, asked if she thinks Trump is a "good candidate," replies "I think he is the Republican nominee"
3·2 years agoThe reason there is a “party system” at all is because of our voting system. It forces a two party system and if you don’t listen to the parties you’ll throw your vote away. If we switch to Ranked Choice Voting this wouldn’t be a problem anymore and we’d be able to actually elect the most popular candidate.
Interesting, I started with DeWalt, have never had 1 single issue and I have about 10 different tools. But I’ve always wanted to switch to Milwaukee because I like red better than yellow, but I’m in too deep with DeWalt 😂

politics @lemmy.world•AOC wants to impeach SCOTUS justices following Trump immunity ruling
41·2 years agoVoting gives us no control with the current party system. We need ranked choice voting, end campaigns and advertising. Only 1 website will have the candidates and their platforms, tax funded only, anyone who wants to run can run and ranked choice voting will make the actual most popular acceptable candidate win.

Futurology@futurology.today•With self-install solar panels, and a €150 plug-in adapter that feeds power directly into electricity sockets; a DIY home power system is becoming popular in Europe.English
8·2 years agoSafety wise it’s perfectly safe. The male end is only energized if it detects that it’s actually connected to the grid, then it matches the sine wave of the grid. It can’t just electrocute you if you unplug it and touch the exposed pins.

Space@lemmy.world•The earth stabilized video of the re-entry also gives a better idea of what was happening.
42·2 years agoThe primary mission was a successful orbital trajectory, the secondary mission was a fuel transfer experiment. For the transfer experiment they had vent the hot gas to get starship rotating for the transfer. They ran out of hot gas which is fine, the trajectory was already set for re-entry. There was literally no risk here and it all went exactly as planned.

4·2 years agoI recently upgraded to the new GE all in one washer dryer. Removes a massive step of having to move clothes between dryer and washer. Toss em in, and 2 hours later they’re done. Best part is they can be tossed in before bed and ready in the morning for work!

211·2 years agoDon’t forget good hardware too. The switch is an absolutely terrible hand held device. My hands cramp up nearly instantly trying to play on it.
I have purchased BOTW and TOTK for the switch, but I play them on my steam deck with YUZU Waaaay better experience.

Linux@lemmy.ml•KDE Goes and Does It (Double-Click By Default, That Is) - OMG! Linux
33·2 years agoI haven’t tried it but if it works the same as a mobile OS you long click to select. Single click to execute.
Edit: apparently that’s not how it works. There is a checkbox on every icon that you have to click directly on the check box to select/unselect.

Android@lemmy.world•Chromecast with Google TV is now serving full-screen, auto-playing Chicken Tender Wrap adsEnglish
4·2 years agoPlex will do all/most of that with no additional hardware required. Just install the app to your smart TV and phones. Best part is when I go to a anyone else’s house it’s as easy as installed the app to their TV and using the QR code on the display to sing in with my phone. Bonus you install the server app to your home computer and put in movies or media you already own there. You don’t even have to install a server for it to use all of the other aggregation features.

That was the joke.
