Hey, works for me too!

This argument is the one that pisses me off more than anything any adult does (and I’m around 50): I made these mistakes when I was young so I think we need to stop you from making the same mistakes. It’s so patronizing.
I often hear it from conservatives explaining why young people are voting the wrong way. I’ve heard it from the religious when explaining why young people will eventually come (back) to Christianity. I’ve heard it from anti-drug people for why marijuana should be illegal.
We certainly could use studies on this sort of thing, but this statement alone makes me suspicious of your personal views on the subject because people I’ve heard make this sort of statement are always coming from a biased position and they never realize it because it’s so foundational to their opinion on the topic.
Barracuda would probably be in Water.
One of my most vivid memories of waking up at night, I looked down towards my feet and there was a dark, spider-shaped shadow about the size of a dachshund. I looked at it for a second, then there was a flurry of movement from its legs as it rushed up towards my face. I jumped out of bed and threw the covers at it, then hit the lights. Nothing was there.

Next up: give the government the power to activate any internet-connected camera to have an AI scan for child abuse. It’s not invasive because humans only review it if the AI thinks it’s found something!

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Salt Typhoon also compromised the private portals, or backdoors, that telephone companies provide to law enforcement to request court-ordered monitoring of phone numbers pursuant to investigations.English
39·1 year agoLost in the noise of the story is that Salt Typhoon has proved that the decades of warnings by the internet security community were correct. No mandated secret or proprietary access to technology products is likely to remain undiscovered or used only by “the good guys” – and efforts to require them are likely to backfire.
So it’s somewhat ironic that one of the countermeasures recommended by the government to guard against Salt Typhoon spying is to use strongly encrypted services for phone calls and text messages – encryption capabilities that it has spent decades trying to undermine so that only “the good guys” can use it.

15·1 year agoThe hilarity of all of this is that this week the US government started warning citizens to use these platforms now because even the backdoors that were created for law enforcement to monitor suspects have been compromised, and now the telephone networks are absolutely infested with foreign hackers and the cost and effort to get them out may be too high and take too long.

I don’t really see how it affects autism. I guess maybe ABA? I don’t know of any current treatments for it. If anyone’s making real money off of autism, it’s probably fidget toy and earplug manufacturers, and maybe some influencers. If there were serious money to be made then some big companies would likely be pushing back against a lot of the BS lately, but mostly it’s governments + news media (generally right wing) vs independent or small voices.
