I have more than 20 years experience. I’ve never once not gotten the “can we do it without refactoring?” question. Bad managers? Not necessarily, the pressure always comes from above. Short term thinking always wins out in the for profit private sector.
and the response will invariably be: “Is there a way we can just ship feature x now and fix up the other stuff after?”

Australia@aussie.zone•Australians Overwhelmingly In Support Of Gun Law ReformEnglish
11·10 days agoGun regulations. Not protest regulations. As mind numbingly stupid we are as a nation. I don’t think most people really think the Akram’s were protestors.
I will ask though where are the unions? You know the reason the Labor party exists in the first place. Surely their rights to protest are sacrosanct . If a Labor government can just opportunistically ban one kind of protest an LNP can easily just ban another.

Australia@aussie.zone•The Biggest Lie in Australian Housing | Chris KohlerEnglish
8·21 days agoThe biggest problem is that politicians are not going to legislate against their own wealth. They’ll hide behind the public interest register. Dutton made his millions in property but only owned one property according to the register. Because he only had to declare he was a director of a private company and not how that company made money.

ADHD memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Ah yes, the trouble sitting still disorderEnglish
9·3 months agoGenuine question. Is this a trait of ADHD or a side effect? I guess what I’m asking is is the issue that the goals are there but I can’t focus on them and that makes me anxious or that there are goals and oh boy that’s just too much to handle? Or is this all just different positions on the autism spectrum?
I’m 99% sure my son is ADHD and I want to help him as much as I can (and get a diagnosis when the medical people have the time)

And what really gets to me is that he was not only a cunt. He was a completely irrelevant cunt to Australia. Why the fuck the media here is eulogising him is just plain fucking stupid. I think there’s still too many Australian journalists clinging to their blue ticks on mecha-hitler world, thinking they are swimming against the toxicity and not realising it’s sinking in, as it was meant to.

3·4 months agoSo some dude got a hold on an old radio program from 1975 and it’s “National Conspiracy” that he signed a restrictive legal document as to how he can use the recording.
If it was aired on the ABC then it will exist in the National Archives with standard copyright attached but actually playing any excerpts doesn’t give them editorial control over how people will interpret the recording.

Australia@aussie.zone•Films and video games have age classifications. Should books?English
31·5 months agoI’m not opposed. It’s a clear guideline. Information for parents. Parents let kids watch R rated movies all the time. The issue will be if they start getting declared unclassified and banned.
There is too, precedent, American Psycho was given an R+ rating when it was released and to be honest it deserved it. The capitalistic debauchery of the characters was grossly offensive.

I lost all touch with movies when they wrapped up The Movie Show. You always knew whether a movie was in your wheelhouse based on who out of David and Margaret hated it and why.
But that was a different time.
