The BBC is a savvy propaganda operator which initially denies working for the British government.

Because “trust us” didn’t work for Google, for Facebook, or for any of the other companies that promised not to be evil.
Well at least Palantir is promising to be evil.

That is what Germany is doing, up to the limitations cfgaussian outlined.

The statement at the bottom from the war ministry says it all.
Rough translation:
Since military service is currently exclusively voluntary, permission [for longer stays abroad] will be granted. We will also create an internal policy to automatically approve all requests, as long as service is voluntary.

US ceasefire proposals: you cease, we fire.

Then logically it stands to follow that German prosecutors, judges, and buerocrats are Russian bots whenever they cite German law.

At least the forced conscription bit hasn’t been hidden. The government and military were very clear all last year in saying that if there aren’t enough volunteers there will be compulsory service, and designing the law to automatically change when necessary. From there it’s not a stretch to conscript older men as well, especially those over age approx. 35 who had to participate in compulsory service before it was abolished about 15 years ago.

The fact that this change has been reported on very little, and if reported on then well after the change took effect, is very concerning.

What gets me about capitalist civil planning is how they won’t even copy successful ideas in other cities or countries and insist on reinventing the wheel each time.

Weird limited hangout.

“Epstein wasn’t so bad, look what our enemies have definitely totally done!”

It’s been a while since I’ve read these but I had a lot of fun reading the “quantum physics for laypeople” books by Brian Greene (The Elegant Universe) and Sean Carroll (Something Deeply Hidden). The Disappearing Spoon by Sam Kean was also really cool, it discusses various chemical phenomena in an accessible way.

Hopefully no Ecuadorians get caught in the crossfire between the US military invaders and the CIA/DEA drug runners.

I have also really struggled with this phrase or concept in my life. Especially as a kid, I would get in trouble for one thing or another and would try to explain my thoughts or actions to try to create some understanding only to be cut off for making excuses. I probably learned some negative patterns from that.

Because PM Starmer is facing a public backlash to Andrew and other UK elites being mixed up in the recent document dumps. It’s not for justice, it’s to save face.

There was a published exchange between former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and former US President Bill Clinton from the 1990s, in which Chrétien made a strong arguments for Canada’s nominal sovereignty in terms of how it benefits the US position. For example, Canada can take the side of the US in international relations; a state or even multiple states cannot do that. The subordination of Canadian intelligence (CISA) to the US via Five and more Eyes is another example: the US can use CISA to provide legal cover for surveilling US citizens.
Yeah but that comes out of artficial political polarization and culture wars, not disgust with the class nature of the state and its imperialist project.
