With the number of breaches and leaks, my chosen birthday is likely more substantiated than my actual birthday.

I appreciate the share with anyone feature as well. I have a few friendships that are largely based on testing cool songs back and forth. This way the only inconvenience is me getting inbound Spotify links.

2·1 month agoI agree that governments should be using open self-hosted platforms to disseminate information. No one should have to sign up for Twitter to see their local police blotter, snow cancellations, etc.
On Graphene now for the sake of simplicity, but I greatly miss the customizability and tweakability of crDroid. Truly one of the best ROMS.

Privacy@programming.dev•Germany are no longer against chat control - (German article)
1·2 months agoWho needs to steal your data when your news articles share it with 180+ partners unless you subscribe? Germany’s GDPR bastardization is the worst. The young people have been buying that Ami-propeganda since the 80s. They know more about Rhianna and Mikey Cyrus than they do about chat kontrol and Grundrechte. Not too dissimilar from the US, so I dont want to rip on them too bad. Those that do get it need to get loud with their friends, everywhere.

Privacy@programming.dev•EFF Demands Answers About ICE-Spotting App Takedowns
3·2 months agoSeriously agree. Complaining that a proprietary app store won’t give you this app is like crying that you have a right to protest while lying under tank tracks. Sustaining yourself on this earth requires you to have a minimal level of logical functioning and this seems sadly absent in 80%+ of Americans and also significant portions of people worldwide. McDonalds isn’t going to let you set up a lemonade stand in their lobby.

20·2 months agoDid you see the piece about the lady driving through Bow Mar and they tried to blame her for stealing packages because she showed up on a camera as driving through that area? Very pushy cop too. Denver is out of control with these things.

Buy European@feddit.uk•EU parliament votes to ban meat names for plant-based foodsEnglish
21·3 months agoPretty sure it was “Backwerk”. I would also be surprised if it wasn’t in the small print on the sign or something. The point for me was that I should have made that choice consciously, but due to the “meaty” language and my hurried state, I was misled into thinking it was meat. Consumers should know what they are getting based on how it is described and I found the description lacking in specificity. Apparently this is not enough for me to complain until I saw an article on Lemmy about the EU addressing it. :-)

712·3 months agoI sat down in a high volume bakery in a German pedestrian zone recently only to find that the chicken sandwich I had picked out was really some kind of fake cardboard plant meat. I have nothing against that sort of thing and I’m open to trying new things, but they used some misleading terminology to make it sound like meat. I remember being irritated at the time and I’m glad the politicians have this issue in their sights. Having said that, I’m baffled this is important enough in contrast to the rest of world events to actually warrant attention and action.
Sounds like another one of those “gentle nudges” that has been pushing Europe’s digital sovereignty roadmap forward. Not exactly a catastrophe. Apple needs to learn that they’re not in charge. The citizens should be in charge.

2·4 months agoI feel like every step governments, leaders, and even many citizen initiatives take is always a step in the wrong direction now. No matter how much we watch them, they’re just up to more shit. We could donate half our salaries to the EFF, FSF, and ACLU and we would still be playing defense. How do we put a stop to this shit?

2·4 months agoVivaldi is my favorite non-FOSS browser and has been for some time. I still prefer a good FOSS browser for everyday use, but if a site won’t load, I try Vivaldi next. It’s highly customizable and supports side tabs easily and it’s even a surfaced option during the initial setup!

13·6 months agoThis is so whack. I don’t get it, but it strikes me as true for many people 5-10 years younger than me. I’m the opposite. I want to use my desktop for everything and I’d sooner use a dumbphone/laptop combo than a smartphone with no computer. One thing I will never do on a phone is game. Sure, snake in the doctors office is one thing, but mobile gaming is so trash and scammy and bullshit that I just can’t have any fun.

These scummy assholes at the big payment processors have already made rules where merchants break ToS if they surcharge for card transactions. It’s time people SEE and have the option to OPT OUT of financial industry overreach.

Presumably towns, cities, and state agencies are the ones buying these cameras. Are they able to opt out of data sharing or manually control requests? If not, is there anyone working to put these cameras on procurement blacklists?
Probably sitting at 16-20 years with a short windows break in the first 5 year. I run Linux distros on my main computers, but have a windows disk I kept around for gaming only. I hear Linux has gotten better with games, but I don’t mind the separation of not being able to go straight from productivity to games without a reboot.
I followed a similar path. When I was on Gnome I hated plasma. When Gnome 3 dropped I tried a bunch of stuff like Cinnamon, Budgie, Xfce, Lxde, etc. and settled on Plasma which has only continued to be great over the hears. I value the tweaks and the fact that it can be configured 100% desktop centric without a bunch of touch/convergence stuff getting in the way.
Junkie Elmo is the correct character to use here. Why do we crave enshitification so badly?

In person, bash is king. Online I’ve mostly given up, but I don’t shop on Amazon anymore, so on the rare occasion I need something, I ask a friend to order it for me. I assume that provides some obfuscation.
