Android@programming.dev•Open source app for removing metadata from images before opening
1·10 months agoI can’t say whether it can execute, but the metadata is a privacy concern if you are posting online. Depending on the camera taking the picture it can include the model of the phone, date, or even GPS information
No, it is not that bad. It’s actually very nice.
It affords a lot of consistency, is relatively easy to understand (once you’re familiar with the convention), and theming allows you to modify all the colors and sizing in one file rather than modifying a lot of CSS
I think the worst that can be said about it is that it is unnecessary, but I cannot see a true downside to using it besides personal preference. It gets the job done efficiently and correctly and that’s what’s important at the end of the day

Python@programming.dev•Pyrefly vs. ty: Comparing Python’s Two New Rust-Based Type Checkers
7·1 year agoI’m desperate for better type checking in Python, and part of that is speed. So I’m very interested in these options
I recently started using uv based on a recommendation in another thread so I’ll probably give ty a whirl sometime soon

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•The State of Steam Deck survey 2024: The results are in
2·1 year agoFights in Tight Places looks pretty fun. I’m a big deckbuilder fan, so always enjoy a new one. but that does make me wonder how Tainted Grail: Conquest runs because I really found that one to be a lot of fun. And also reminds me that before I buy a new deckbuilder I should probably play that Balatro game everyone talks about…

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•The State of Steam Deck survey 2024: The results are in
23·1 year agoWeird to discover I’m in the minority for trusting the verification check marks. Sure, I’ve played games without a check on Deck, but I usually use the check to determine how smooth and enjoyable the experience will be.
I’ve realized I just prefer mouse and keyboard so much that I don’t find the deck as enjoyable as others. I still love it, but the number of games I’m interested in playing on it are very limited. So the check is helpful to know how comfy the game will be.
I don’t want to waste any time setting a game up or fixing issues on Deck. It’s just not what I bought the device for.
That being said, any recommendations for smooth, out-of-the-box games on the Deck that didn’t appear in the top 10?
- on the original D.K. game. It was fun as a kid and it’s fun to see the origins of the characters

Gaming@beehaw.org•Sega considering Netflix-like game subscription service
7·1 year agoI’d rather they not, but:
If game companies are going to do this, then they should just sell their content to Netflix or Microsoft and cash in on that licensing revenue while not having to do any of the work.
I do not understand why companies are choosing to make their own streaming services when they are just money pits that provide minimal benefit.
You could go back and stop yourself from wasting money on something silly at least
Hilariously, you only need to go back in time two days to when they minted the Luigi Mangioni coin and buy it right away (and sell at the peak). It ballooned something ridiculous like 37k% so that should set you up nicely
This is something I think about a lot.
Part of me would love to go back and redo high school.or college and just be a better student, learn more, and flirt with girls more (although now that you mention it the age thing would make it weird, you’re right). But I end up at the same conclusion - it wouldn’t be worth not meeting and marrying my wife.
It’d be so difficult to meet her again (we met on Tinder) and to make it so she’s interested in dating me. And then the relationship would be so one sided because I’d know every intimate detail of her past and she’d know nothing of mine.
So, I eventually come to the conclusion that nothing I could do in the past is worth risking her.
