Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Only 7% of Americans Want Their Next Car to Be Electric, Survey Finds
7·11 days agoI don’t love the dashboards being big tablets but if I have to replace my old dude I will probably want something electrically capable. Hopefully next place I live is walkable and I can continue using the car only for car camping and such.

Science@mander.xyz•Sugar industry influenced researchers and blamed fat for CVD
10·11 days agoMy guy Mark selling everyone out for 50k in 2016. Cheap bastard.
The UCSF researchers analyzed more than 340 documents, totaling 1,582 pages of text, between the sugar industry and two individuals: Roger Adams, then a professor of organic chemistry who served on scientific advisory boards for the sugar industry; and D. Mark Hegsted, one of the Harvard researchers who produced the literature review.
To conduct the literature review, the sugar industry paid the Harvard scientists the equivalent of $50,000 in 2016 dollars, then set the review’s objective, contributed articles to be included, and received drafts. Yet the industry’s funding and role were not disclosed in the final NEJM publication.
The literature review heavily criticized studies linking sucrose to heart disease, while ignoring limitations of studies investigating dietary fats. The review argued that blood cholesterol levels were the only significant risk factor for coronary heart disease, which made the high sucrose content of the American diet seem less hazardous than if blood triglycerides were also considered to be a risk factor.
Love it when people publish just to publish, really improves the whole academic enterprise!

Gaming@beehaw.org•'Friendslop' dominated 2025 by proving time and time again that graphics are overrated
1·19 days agoAgreed, couch co-op games are doing well in general because they’re an easy hangout activity and only require one console/computer. Couch co-op has been out of vogue amongst the big publishers (I’m sure a fortnite player is more valuable to them) so people are using what’s available. The few by big publishers with nice graphics have been popular as well (split fiction, it takes two).
So glorious! The moss looks so pretty too

7·26 days agoThankfully, LG doesn’t make disabling Live Plus too hard, though you do have to click through a few menus. If you want to turn it off, here’s how:
1. Press the Settings button on your remote (the gear icon).
2. When the side menu pops up, select Settings.
3. Chose the General option.
4. Scroll down and select System.
5, Select Additional Settings.
6. Toggle Live Plus off.
In the Settings menu on its TVs, LG says, “By turning Live Plus on, you understand that the content displayed on your TV can be recognized, and that the viewing information may be used to provide you with an enhanced viewing experience and personalized services including content recommendations and advertisements.”

Gaming@beehaw.org•Gamers Are Overwhelmingly Negative About Gen AI in Video Games, but Attitudes Vary by Gender, Age, and Gaming Motivations.
11·28 days agoExactly. If we thought the companies would fold in AI thoughtfully as one tool of many for game creators to consider when implementing their vision I doubt people would be negative. As it stands we trust companies to continue doing what they’re doing: forcing workers to incorporate AI into their workflow because they’re rich friends at google/meta/openAI really really need the technology to succeed to make back anything on their investment even though the profit step still reads ??? in their master plan anyway.
reallykindasorta@slrpnk.nettoHacker News@lemmy.bestiver.se•AI will make our children stupidEnglish
2·29 days agoYep, college profs are regularly failing students for being illiterate at the top 10 uni my partner works at. We had a doom and gloom conversation about this after an event recently. These students should be the cream of the crop. Profs say the decline predated but seems accelerated by the covid pandemic. As you said, they say administration had been pressuring profs to keep averages up so some of the decline has been obfuscated by padded data (grades). Remedial reading classes are needed even at top universities. Students use AI for both papers and presentations and profs are worried that they are skipping the steps that train your brain to think deeply and analytically.

I’ve had a ninja express chop ($30) food processor for over 10 years to make smoothies with frozen fruit. Still works like a charm. I love the wide opening and cleanability vs most blenders I’ve tried. It might be too small for a family.
