Vintage story!

A friend’s 8 year old daughter was asking to play Roblox recently and they reached out to me since it’s in my current area of study and advised them against it due to the lack of responsibility that the corporation takes for their users.

I suggested that they introduce her to Vintage Story on a self hosted server instead. That way, they can control who has access and content.

I’m actually surprised at how many parents let their kids play Roblox unmonitored. I mean, why not let them go to the playground unmonitored instead?

Before I switched to Mint, my W10 spat out a full screen ad that was telling me to dump my PC and get a new one because support was ending for W10. I clicked on ‘maybe later’ because there was no other viable option to get it off screen, thinking it was a one off. It was when the ad popped up again 3 days later that I spat the dummy and went into Linux land.

It wasn’t about ongoing support. It was about being left alone with my choice and not having my personal computer nagging me every few days to spend money when I didn’t need to. I believe this is what most people are angry about.

Probably because we grew up in completely different countries. Australia was very behind back in the day. We had a 2 year lag.

That’s why most of the money hungry games were in the arcades back then. PC gaming wasn’t nearly as big.

On a similar note, I visited the medical museum in Bangkok today and it had a whole section on parasites. I’ll never be the same after having viewed that photograph of someone, cheeks spread, and with a pile of worms spilling out.

How about the government and the different departments move away from big corporations like Microsoft and ditch Windows, Office, Teams etc and go for open source programs?

We’re deeply embedded, yes, but we’d be able to drop them just like that if we really tried. We’re just too happy with the status quo to do anything about it.

I also have family in the US, most of whom voted for the Republican party and, therefore, Trump. Their argument was that the Democrats tax too much. 🤷🏻‍♀️
