I guess that’s the only option until those apps require a higher Android version than is available on the old phone. 😬

One of the actual (many) reasons that drove me from Windows. Over the years it became so dirty to have so many old files and registry entries that were abandoned by their respective uninstallers that I became wary of installing anything at all, and that’s not the feeling I want with my personal computer.
So that phone still runs Android apps? But not from the Play Store I imagine? Or can you get the Play Store on that phone?
I would need something that can get our e-ID app installed. We use it for everything, from logging into my bank to applying for childcare compensation, to logging into the kids’ school system. Doesn’t seem to be available via F-Droid. ☠️
If you had to buy a new phone today, what would you go for?

5·6 days agoI did some benchmarks a few months ago on iterator helpers, but unless I used them incorrectly, regular arrays were much more performant, maybe an order of magnitude, than supposedly lazy iterator helpers.
Maybe it’s a poor implementation in Firefox? I don’t know.

21·11 days agoPerhaps a bit. But I agree with your sentiment besides that. Hopefully we won’t have “the year of the Linux Desktop” as some sort of hard ambition, where we will reach a point where every OS just conforms and converges to the same paradigms, like we basically have on our phones by now.

I’ll be the nitpicker and point out that changing the status quo doesn’t necessarily need to be a bad thing. Every good thing ever has basically been a change from the status quo. 🤷♂️
