Buy European@feddit.uk•Walt: private alternative to Google Pay or Apple PayEnglish
5·1 month agoTheir security page makes it seem like your information is fairly untouched. But yea would not trust anybody with that either if I don’t have access to the source code. (or other independent people that are smarter).
I did actually went back to using my CC directly and not over Apple Pay to be less reliant mostly. But iirc one thing apps also do is providing an virtual card to the merchant obfuscating your real one. Not sure how much that’s worth in practice but it is kinda cool.

Buy European@feddit.uk•Suggestions for music streaming service?English
3·1 month agoIve been using Qobuz for about a year and while there are a lot of things to applaud and it is nice to be able to hear music with peace of mind.
It is really annoying that they do not seem to bother working on some really low hanging fruits like having folders for playlists and custom covers. Their catalog is also not that big and a few songs are simply missing. I can actually see past that for the most part, i guess its a lot of work to get all the suits to agree and I suspect they are fairly small team. What I do not understand however is that the smaller catalog is riddled with inconsistency, AI slop being linked with unrelated artists and wrong info. Even that would not be as bad if they simply have and easy access report feature but they do not. They are also not really talkative on their forum either, where a lot of users point out those flaws.
Its really unfortunate as they are handed quite a lot of customers for free simply because others their competition shoot themselves in the foot. I feel like it would make a lot of sense for them to drop the music snobbery act and make fit for a more mainstream audience. (While still keeping the hand picked curation I do love the more manual approach there.)
Still would not go back to either Spotify or Apple Music, before that I will simply buy my playlists as MP3 and listen to web radio :)

Programming@programming.dev•What do you want out of a coding monospace font?English
1·2 months agoOh wow that looks pretty and also makes total sense in theory. I think I have seen it in other places as well and might just steal that. :) Thank you for pointing that out.

4·2 months agoYea, as its only applied to italics its less distracting than it might seem at first. Your IDE may not even use italics. In VSCode with my theme, italics are used for comments and variable names, which looks like this:

1·2 months agoDid you mean Debian based? or really just Ubuntu reconfigured to remove Snap.
I was actually pleasantly surprised when I found out how easily it was to configure GNOME to look more like KDE, especially after reading so much about it to be opinionated. I also like KDEs layout more but GNOME consistencies is what makes me stick with it.
Just need Dash to Panel (which I believe is forked of Zorins original work which Zorin now forks itself) and ArcMenu also add DING for Desktop Icons cause they are cozy.

2·2 months agoThere is also OWS which is EU funded and I think a lot more interesting as they do not have a business to run. From what I can tell it is a lot more transparent/active, you can already download data sets from here: https://openwebindex.eu/owler/our_datasets
Yea, im kinda sick of what the tech industry has become. I do believe that tech and even the internet can have a net positive for humanity and I don’t mean it in the early silicon valley “making the world a better place thanks to my compression algorithm” sort of way. It does have the power to bring humans together and not stand in between as well as be an extension of your brain and not a replacement.
Open Phone (currently on hold, the webpage deteriorated over time) a Nokia phone as if it was made today. (usb-c, arm processor, 5g, 1tb sd, rss reader, podcasts, 2fa, web radio, fediverse client, offline lexicon, offline translator, weather, music, maps only showing a compass with directions, signal messenger)
An Arcade Machine built on top of a sensible Linux base running on a raspberry. The goal is to bring indie games in cafés and bars as I am super bummed out about arcades not being a thing :(

The image makes me so uncomfortable just by looking at it. The way they are hunged down get a closer look of the screen or the right guy is adjusting their screen to get a better angle… Also their brains inside their heads are in direct contact with the sun and is probably past well-done by now. If the chair in the back is the one they two are sitting on then “good night”. Ill give them 2 hours tops until they call it a day.

61·3 months agoHonestly wish somebody would go for a nokia style form factor. with signal protocol integration, rcs, usb c and beefy battery, maybe 5g?!, performant processor, custom os/NOT ANDROID its so ugly on smaller screen sizes also not performant, also some really fun apps like: email, rss reader, web radio, tetris, also a compass, and a keychain hole, and a 100€ price tag.

Web Development@programming.dev•New beta Stackoverflow frontend. Hot or Not?English
5·3 months agoI really don’t understand why they even did that? Guess the web devs got too bored while the current one worked too well, but that should have maybe been a sign to keep your hands from it.
You don’t even need to be a designer to see how it looks worse even if you are not able to point out what exactly is wrong.
Especially do not get why they got rid of the borders for the sake of minimalism. It adds so much unnecessary mental overhead.
Gamescope is a microcompositor from Valve that is used on the Steam Deck. Its goal is to provide an isolated compositor that is tailored towards gaming and supports many gaming-centric features …
Whoa! That does sound like exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much, ill give it a try tomorrow!
Yea, i figured it wouldn’t make much difference. I was talking more about a minimal setup in terms of not having features like multiple workspaces and such.
I’m aware how stupid this question is, as sway, as stated in the post, does everything as intended. I guess just asking if anybody know a “kiosk compositor” with like no features at all?! Which would be a tiny bit more fitting for my use case. Just a way to start a game directly using wayland from the terminal.
Honestly was thinking about using jQuery + UI. For a really simple SPA just for fun.
Never really used apart of being forced for money.

thought the same thing afterwards :( too late now.
