3·4 months agoI really wish there was a good remote desktop method that supported attaching to my “local” session but keeping the displays locked. Similar to how windows RDP works.
If I have to remote into my work machine from home, I have XRDP setup to make a separate session that I can have run simultaneously to my local session. It’s fine, but if I could use the existing local session that would be superb (without unlocking my local displays while I’m not there is the big point)
GNOME has RDP/VNC abilities, but in my experience a) the screen has to be awake, or else it becomes none responsive, b) it only worked with one monitor IIRC, and c) it unlocks the local display.
x11vnchas issue C.I think KDE is working on improved Wayland RDP? Haven’t seen if it satisfies this. Sadly though, my work IT doesn’t support Wayland

10·6 months agoIdk if you’re being sarcastic or anything, but I’ll actually answer the question. Apologies if this is unnecessary.
You can hook up an Over the Air antenna (like one listed in this article ), which you can hook up directly to a lot of TVs I think.
Instead of connecting to your TV, you can get an IP Tv Tuner, like HDHomeRun. This let’s you connect the antenna to your home network and access the feed from your computer and their app. It also provides a video stream that Jellyfin and Plex (I’d bet Kodi as well) can access.

Android@lemdro.id•Google rolls out Pixel Phone app Call RecordingEnglish
1·6 months agoI don’t want to defend Google, but I don’t think that this is actually a sinister thing. In some areas you legally need to notify the other party the call is being recorded (two party consent). So this covers that base to prevent the user from accidentally breaking the law, and potentially shifting liability to Google.
This is good to know. I’m looking at potentially getting new NC ear buds. I have Bose NC 700 over ear headphones, however want earbuds. I was looking at the fair buds, but I wanna be able to walk away from my phone if needed.

Programming@programming.dev•Best Tool and Layout for Learning Touch Typing on Linux?
2·7 months agoI used this site to learn Colemak a couple years ago. 10/10
Reminds me of a final exam in university (engineering course) where the Prof said we could use one double sided sheet. I wrote it in red and blue pen and brought 3D glasses. It was helpful for duplicate things with different info like some tables. I barely used it, but I thought it was clever and funny

5·1 year agoDon’t have a good rec to add to the discussion of hardware, but I would love to give a shoutout to GadgetBridge, which is an Open Source Android app that is a vendorless alternative to controlling lots of smart wearables (and other gadgets). It doesn’t currently have Polar support, but seems that might be fairly easy to implement, since polar publishes their SDK online (and presumably the protocol with which it communicates).

Android@lemdro.id•RCS update adds end-to-end encryption, Google and Apple confirm supportEnglish
2·1 year agoWhy would it make sense? Currently on Android, RCS isn’t a system level thing like SMS is. So Signal won’t easily be able to pull it in. Unless they implement their own implementation of RCS and the Universal Profile.
Thanks, I hate it

God damn, they’re an asshole. Never even heard of them, but that comment was wild and out of left field
