Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Kenya battles rising recruitment networks luring young men into Russia’s war against Ukraine
3·3 days agoYes, and it’s not only Kenya but the rest of Africa as Russia’s deceptive war recruitment scheme ensnares thousands of young Africans,
Through a shadowy network of online recruiters, Russia has quietly assembled a pipeline funneling thousands of Africans from nearly every country on the continent into the front lines and factories supporting Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine. These were not the destinations the young Africans thought they had signed up for. Many were looking for jobs, training, or opportunities abroad. Drawn by promises of life-changing salaries, they instead found themselves trapped in a war far from their home countries …
Ukrainian officials estimate that nearly 30,000 foreign nationals are currently fighting for Russia. With the full extent of these deceptive recruitment networks still unknown, African governments and families of victims are demanding more expansive investigations, an immediate end to these schemes, and accountability for those responsible. Following is a synthesis of what has been uncovered thus far …

Ukraine@sopuli.xyz•Russia Recruits Transnistria Residents for the Front via Fast-Track Citizenship
6·6 days agoThe President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, reacted harshly after Russian leader Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying granting Russian citizenship to residents of the Transnistrian region. The head of state said the measure could be aimed at recruiting people for Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“They probably need more people to send to the war in Ukraine,” Maia Sandu said on Saturday at a security conference in Tallinn …
According to Maia Sandu, the Kremlin’s decision also represents a method of pressure on the Republic of Moldova in the context of Chisinau’s efforts to reintegration of the Transnistrian region, controlled by pro-Russian separatist authorities and where Russian military personnel have been stationed since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Elon Musk pledges Tesla to China’s ‘core socialist values’ to avert EV price war (July 2023)
China’s government has solicited a truce among its top EV manufacturers, with Elon Musk’s Tesla being the only foreign firm to sign the joint letter committing to the country’s “core socialist values”.
… Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, along with 15 other automakers, including BYD (Tesla’s biggest Chinese rival), signed the joint letter at a motor conference in Shanghai on Thursday. The contents of the letter align with China’s ruling Communist Party and President Xi Jinping.
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology constructed a joint letter targeting unfair fluctuating prices for the leading EV makers in the world’s largest car market.

5·26 days agoYour comment is false, just read your own linked article.
China was just reducing the number of ‘restricted industries’ to 106 from 117 (this alone is a joke), but companies can still acquire only a minority stake. They need a partner.
The only non-Chinese company in China is Elon Musk’s Tesla. It’s the only exemption.
Oh, and what does it mean anyway when the Chinese government issues such lists or introduces any laws. The owners of China’s AI company Manus also played by the rules and sold their company to Meta as announced already in December 2025, but now China blocks the $2bn acquisition of AI start-up Manus:
Beijing’s National Development and Reform Commission [has] prohibited foreign investment in the deal, requiring “the parties involved to withdraw the acquisition transaction”.

135·26 days agoA quick reminder that non-Chinese companies can’t establish a subsidiary in China, they always need a Chinese partner that would then own the majority of the Chinese joint venture. And that’s just one among many other protectionist rules that illustrate how the Chinese Communist Party shields its domestic supply chains, including the use of forced labour.

74·2 months agoIf an apps poses a threat to people or something, the state should have the right to prohibit that very much as other things in the ‘real’ world. But Russia, China, and other autocracies ban apps to increase surveillance and foster their own dictatorial policies. China, for example, banned gay dating apps as far as I remember, along with tens of thousands other apps. Now Russia is banning Signal and other messengers. The regimes are trying to protect themselves and limit their own people’s freedom.
